Slimani is meant for those scrappy games?

Posted

YES!!!!

The mark of Champions again - (Well, we are still the champs after all!)  in the sense that we were able to make the breakthrough, no matter how scrappy things were before it!!!!

Top half again and breathing space!.... And breathe!

Albrighton changed the game,  Slimani also deserves some of the credit as well.  Brilliant last 25 or so minutes.  I am not keen on how much Gray is being slagged off in the  match thread, he did better than Mahrez in the first half.

Albrighton.....what a stud. Man did he give it everything the entire time out there. Superb performance by him

Great goal by Vardy and Slim, what can you say about him and his head.....fabulous finish to the game

Probably our worst performance under Shakey but still got the win - shades of last year

Having said that just puts into perspective what a good decision it was getting rid of rancid Ranieri as we'd have been absolutely raving has this performance come a couple of months ago.

Sunderland were better than I expected, actually quite a tidy team may have some hope to stay up yet.

And finally, Marc Albrighton, take a bow son! Not his biggest fan but today shows why he has to start ahead of Gray!!!

First manager to win their first five games in the premier league. Howay the Shakespeare!

Edit: I might be wrong on that actually.

Good win for us but why did we make such hard work of it we should have put this to bed in the first half and cruised to a comfortable win,why the FUCH donwe make things difficult for ourselves ??

Drinky looks to be struggling to be honest. He needs a rest and maybe he won't play at Atletico which would not be good for us. Momentum is such a big thing in football. 5 league defeats followed by 5 league wins. Think we are as good as safe now. On another note good to see the Nuge got a hattrick and missed a pen too :-)

That was the biggest "Shithouse win of the season TM" for a long time. Even more than the home game against West Ham. Honestly had Sunderland came away with all 3 points we probably couldn't complain. Fair play to Shakespeare though, the subs changed the game with Albrighton surely putting in the best 35 minutes from any player in any game this season. He turned the game on it's head (and Slim's head!) big time. Even King was good when he came on.

Despite an underpar performance for most of it, there are a lot of positives to take from the game:

  • We won despite not playing well. (Pressure of this game may have got to the team a little).
  • Kept another clean sheet.
  • Benny had another good game. He is now a worthy squad player for the club.
  • Wilfred Ndidi was an absolute monster. He's great at breaking up play, but today he was one of the best users of the ball on the pitch. Players like Grey and Mahrez were using him for give and go's. This is an element of his game he can improve on, but he definitely improved on it in this game and showed glimpses he can become an all round player. Very exciting seeing this player on the rise.
  • Albrighton and Slimani combination looks like a great "Plan B." We should really try a more direct / crossing style game with Slmani up top for one game (maybe near end of season) because I am convinced it will be fruitful.
  • Marc Albrighton was in inspired form! Honestly over the last month he deserves an England call-up. He's been fantastic for us.
  • Slimani back against the goals is important for the team and for him.
  • Inspired subs. Shakespeare has rightly been criticised on here for some less than stellar choices (vs West Ham springs to mind), but he played his hand perfectly tonight.

It would be hard to see us getting relegated now. I think we will lose our streak on the weekend because surely the club is planning to go big versus Atletico. We shall see!

Fantastic result. I'll be supporting Boro tomorrow. If they win that, then we will be fine

Burnley and Watford did well tonight. Fair play to them. Between Hull and Swansea I would have thought now, although Palace have a tough run in

Actually he is made for the big games, in Sporting he was consistently the best performer in the big games.

Nope. He was crap. Just playing for himself and firing the ball to row z. Mahrez wasn't good tonight but at least tried to play the others in.

You do realise that Sunderland are fighting for their lives. They may not be very good but they gave us a game and a month ago we were looking like joining them. A little perspective required.
