They didn't need to - they weren't under any pressure - what we did chuck at them first half they never looked troubled after the first over the top nearly caught them out.

from my my perspective, we generally overpower teams at home at some point and then hang on. Sunderland was different in that we came stronger later. I wouldn't think this lot, with their intensity would not be a good idea to try and do that. we probably play chase the ball last half hour and then they pick us off as we tire. I think we have to try and get ahead first half to open the tie up and force them to score.

I wasn't convinced that they didn't allow us to come forward in that period during the first half in order to create an opportunity for them to break behind us. They really are that confident in their defensive solidity.

Simeone will be happy with a 0-0. somehow, we need to make them uncomfortable. That will be a massive ask for both the team and the fans.  at least it will be a cold evening which is a start.

Both things we are saying link into the same thing "they weren't under pressure" as we attacked with 2-3 people as we wanted to stay in the game an not get caught on the counter, their goal from a throw in on the edge of their penalty box. We will try an overpower them for the first 15-20 mins an then be a little bit smarter an preserve what we have if we do or don't score after that, the object will be to score in first 20 if possible but 100% not to conceede in that time an we won't, as if we learn from history we get picked off when we play too high up the pitch, West Bromwich H last year an Man utd H this year, just two examples off the top of my head of playing to high.

So it's a completely different story when we are attacking with 4-6 players rather than

2-3 max players. It will still leave us the numbers back should we lose the ball, but mean we are more of a threat going forward. These are top 6 in Europe make no mistake they lost the final twice for a reason, they have weaknesses, whether we are good enough to capitalise on them is a different story, they invited to much pressure by sitting to deep in the final 3 years ago an conceeded, an then got smashed in ET. They had more resolve last year, but whether or not they beat us I'd be surprised this year if they made the final unless they get the fortune of drawing Monaco, 5th best team left in this tournament.

The penalty of having to buy the referees in the previous rounds is that then in the final we have no money to pay him and we lose. Hopefully this year we will break the bank and we finally win the Champions League with three goals offside, mate!

It wasn't penalty, no doubt about it. But, in the other hand, few minutes later could be one (Ndidi against Saul). No matter. I think the referee favoured us.

lol Fair play mate, I apologise for my earlier un-welcoming post. To be honest, I'm STILL hurting from the 1997 game at Filbert Street where we WERE cheated, Jesus Gil was so corrupt! Again sorry for my earlier rant, welcome to FoxesTalk

I dont think that your team needs to rush in that game. Just get that one inside in 90mints...I am sure you will solve game in ET. They have weaknesses and you win this one for sure,I hope you will!

best wish from Cro!

Jesus Gil has been on of the most corrupt men in history. The majority of Atleti fans didn't want him. The Gil family illegally took over the club.

Now there is peace because the miracle of Simeone. Miguel Angel Gil Marin (son of Jesús Gil) is better than his father, no doubt about it, but Atleti continues having cloudy business (Falcao sale , transfers in Portugal, etc...)

If we get conned for a 3rd time by the corrupt Athletico can we copy Leeds and just sing Champions of Europe forever even though they didn't officially win it?

not sure if this has been got across this far so saying it anyway

THIS IS PROBABLY THE LAST TIME YOU WILL SEE YOUR TEAM, THE ONE YOU LOVE IN THE THS STAGE OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.

unless we are able to win the PL again and therefore get seeded then any future qualification via top four is likely to end by last sixteen as we are most likely drawn against a group winner at that stage as winning a group is very unlikely.

So odds firmly against us going through on Tuesday (I think 33% chance statistically following a 0-1) and any subsequent qualification for CL would be an incredible achievement - I'm pretty comfortable to accept Tuesday evening will be the last time i hear that music at last eight stage and to make the very most of the experience.

of course i live in hope but I would be upset to get to 10pm Tuesday evening and then realise the above and wonder if I could have given a bit more from my seat,

we are all needed on tuesday - let's not be 'tourists' and sit on our hands. Make noise the whole game. We could just be the difference. The guys will need us to lift them last thirty as they tire.

Brilliant a lot of negativity on here, I'm hugely looking forward to it an have optimism regarding it, 1 bit of brilliance is all it needs, huge huge game an one to be enjoyed regardless.

I don't want the referee to give us anything except a fair deal because that will be better than anything we've enjoyed in this fixture any other time.

But I do hope our fans give their all through both the build up and the game itself and so provide the atmosphere that just might help fashion another fabulous chapter in what has been such a memorable footballing fairytale.

I hope too that the team finish the night as the heroes they've been so often and that all the talk is of magic moments instead of dream-destroying mistakes.

With the likely team adjustments there may even be room for an unlikely hero - Ulloa perhaps.

It shouldn't be a night for finding fault but for being part of the effort and offering unconditional support in every way we can.

It's going to be a test for everyone, the fans included, so lets fly our flags physically and metaphorically like never before and live the occasion like its our last day alive.

I can't wait. It's probably the biggest match of my 60 years as a supporter and I sure don't want to suffer us coming second.

We have to believe in ourselves, to trust in our talent and give it every last breath in terms of effort.

There's no use returning to the dressing room saying "if only".

Let's tackle for our lives, pass with precision and shoot like we're defending our own homes and families - with relentless accuracy and to kill the game dead.

And if we need any more motivation, let's remember the innocents (among the guilty) being whacked by the Spanish blackshirts for no more reason than being in a foreign place at the wrong time and let's dispense our own ruthless response where it hurts most - out there on the pitch and despite whatever the officlals chose to do this third time.

But let's do it fairly and with honour. And treat those of a different outlook - opponents, officials or baton bullies - with the contempt they deserve.

Just finished listening to Sportsweek on 5live. 90% of the show was football related but not one word on our Champions League Quarter final. If it was Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool et el, especially if they were the only English representatives, half the programme would have been dedicated to it. They even found time to talk for a few minutes about Leyton Orient but not so much a word about us.

Feck em. Dismissing us........just like last year.

Sounds about right

The closer we get to the game the bigger the nerves are getting lol - i don't think i've ever wanted anything as much as a win and a clean sheet come Tuesday.

It's really hit me this afternoon - the quarter finals of the Champions League, with a shot at a semi-final place...

It's the toughest challenge this amazing group of players have come up against so far and it's terrifying how one mistake early on and we could be in for a long night, that's top end European football for you.

Then I also remember if it wasn't for a dodgy pen we'd have come away with a 0-0 from the first leg...we've proven we can a) handle the pressure, b) match them and stop them - while we didn't create a lot we had glimpses of what we are capable of, put a couple of decent chances together at home and i'd fancy us to score.

Our home support could be the feather that tips the scales, it's been pure excellence - like I said after the Sevilla game, it made a massive difference.

I know now i won't be able to sit down during the match, i get too restless lol

I think im a bit broken guys. Dont know why but this game is nowhere near the excitement I had for sevilla. Dont know if its me currently concentration hard on uni work or what but it isnt crossing my mind as much as sevilla did

could be that I felt we had a much better chance against sevilla and that I really struggle to see us getting through on tuesday. (Not that I think atletico are completely unbeatable, more to do with the fact that i cant imagine us in A CL semi final!)

Hopefully I feel different tuesday, regardless proud of the lads to get this far and whateve happens im thankful ive had the opportunity to be part of it

I reckon we need to go all guns blazing from the start to let Atletico know they're in for a game and not to let them settle and control the game. These guys are experts at protecting a lead and therefore we need to tie it up as quickly as possible.

Hopefully 'Yellow' clappers on the seats and a Hawk-eye system wired up to the penalty area linage.

Anyone know if the local Constabulary have issue their Bobbies with batons yet?

Has finishing in the top four in future seasons really become a plausible scenario now?  :S

looks doubtful but nicking that fourth spot shouldn't be implausible  for any PL club to think about.
