I personally can't see us scoring. I just think these are a step up on Sevilla!

They're defensively so solid and hard to break down.

it looks like we'll have both of our usual centre backs missing for this as well.

They couldn't break us down either

The fact that they were unable to put more than one past us will see us through.  I still think they've lost the advantage by not scoring more.

All we need is an early goal and I think they will crumble.  Someone chop Grizemann in half and we will be flying.

They won't crumble, they're probably the most mentally strong team in Europe.

And looked like the fittest to me - we couldn't move five yards without being mugged

I think there's too many people giving them too much respect.  They're not unbeatable by any stretch.

We played for a 1-0 defeat in the second half and that's exactly what we got.  They couldn't score a goal, legally, in open play and didn't look like doing so.

Throw everything at them at home and I expect us to overturn them, they won't be used to it.  We can take them.

We'll probably need to make sure they don't is what I think he's saying. If they score once then we'll need three on the night.

Sure, but how many times the bar and the post saved Kasper that night ?

Add on top of that that they had almost 75% possession leaving us only scraps and nullified our attacking threat by denying us any clear cut chance inside their box.

Athelti are the worst team to face when being one goal down. They remind me of Mourino's Inter, relentless back four with a deadly clinical counter attack.

Alas, i think this result plays into their hands : we will have to get forward to score, they will hit us on the break.

Yet, the football gods may do us a favor and grant us their help as they did for Chelsea five years ago.

Two missed penalties by Atletico in 2 minutes  :D

Hopefully we'll be saying the same again at just over 10pm on Tuesday night. ;)

Key issues for us:

Who will replace Huth?

Hopefully, Morgan. If not, I would go with Fuchs with Chilwell left back. A bit of a gamble, but Fuchs has the Champions League experience and the know how to adapt.

How to keep Griezmann quiet?

Looks like we will have to go with what worked in terms of the second half, with Ndidi sitting deep. That said, we can't afford to have King for Okazaki, as we need to score. Perhaps Okazaki will be back to his best at the KP.

Other than Griezmann who do we need to keep an eye on?

Although Carrasco was disappointing in the first leg, I still think that he's a danger. Defensive support for the left back from Albrighton is a must. Make sure that Saul doesn't make runs into the box. Torres is past it.

Do we go back to the high pressing, high tempo game?

Could work in our favour, but has its risks as Athletico can counter attack.

What are the alternatives to Okazaki partnering Vardy?

Looks like Slimani will be out, so Okazaki will start. If he fails to make an impression, what alternatives do we have? Can't really see Leo having an impact at this level, although his aerial ability may be useful against Savic and Godin. Perhaps, bring Gray on to play on the wing and Mahrez to play just behind Vardy? Let's move Mahrez around to give Simeone and co something to think about.

Do we keep it tight and just look for a goal from a set piece?

Easy to assume that we will go out all guns blazing. but we could concede early on. Perhaps, we keep it tight and ensure that we get to half time at least with a 0-0 scoreline. If so, see how things go in the first twenty minutes of the second half. If we haven't score, then just throw the kitchen sink at it.

Can we go through?

We have a chance. The fans need to make it an incredibly hostile atmosphere, and we need 100% effort from each player.

They're 1-0 up so do not need to break us down.

They're more than capable of seeing out the 1-0 from the first leg.

Obviously no team will want to risk that but still they're in the driving seat and do not have to throw bodies forward.

Surely, it's Simpson, who's will be in trouble. Carrasco play on the left wing. All their left side was brilliant today -  Yannick scored 2 well taken goals, Filipe Luis another one. Carrasco played full 93', Luis was subbed after 67' (saved fresh for Mahrez, clearly).

He's played down the right as well. Felipe good going forward, but not a great defender. We need to get Mahrez one-on-one with him

Why have your dropped Fuchs. He's performed excellently in the second leg against Seville and the Athletico game - he's our most experienced Champions League player.

Why would Gray be more of a threat than Mahrez?

I think that Slimani might be out injured.

Got to be joking to have Amartey instead of Drinky - what has he done thus far this season to convince you that he needs to start the most important match in our history?

If we go with your line up, I can see us losing 0-4!

lol Might as well not play the 2nd leg if that's the team you want to go with. Maybe have Zieler as the keeper?

Can we have Mark Grew in goal, Matt Mills in defence, Junior Lewis in midfield, and an attack of Akinbiyi, Tommy English and Trevor Benjamin - awesome!

Gamiero will be available

Really worried about our back two without Huth organising

One option could be for Ndidi to play at centre half. I think that's where he started in his early days at Genk before moving into midfield. He has the height, pace and intelligence to do a decent job if called upon. Only problem then is who did we put in midfield.

Way too much pessirealism on this thread.

Can we beat Madrid on Tuesday? We won the Premier League last season. We, if anyone, are allowed to believe in the unlikely.

No shame if we go out, we have already exceeded expectations. Fans and players alike can just go for it.

cannot wait.

Can't see us scoring madness, we will score, it's just whether we can score 3, I think we can get 2, not confident of a clean sheet though.

For what it's worth, my musings on what will/should happen on Tuesday...

Big, humungous, gigantic banner with a close up of Albrighton's thinking-outside-the-box tackle should be raised to the rafters and not taken down until the referee has has his eyelids stapled open and is forced to see it.

The big screen should show a little montage of Simeone brandishing imaginary cards in a loop...

...and then of all the Atletico players faking injury, falling over, rolling around, wasting time (and brandishing imaginary cards)....and the ref should have his eyes prised open with chopsticks to watch it.

The ref should rebel and goes against all UEFA protocol and decides to be fair, vigilant, honest and incorruptible.

What will happen - Atletico will roll around, time waste, cheat and harass the officials.

Ref will be a UEFA golden boy that will do everything to ensure the Spanish teams get through...

..We will not care, not make excuses, make an effing outrageous amount of noise, and cheer our team on to an historic 3-1 victory...

Sorted :scarf:
