Atletico 2nd leg at home

Recommended Posts

Just finished listening to Sportsweek on 5live. 90% of the show was football related but not one word on our Champions League Quarter final. If it was Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool et el, especially if they were the only English representatives, half the programme would have been dedicated to it. They even found time to talk for a few minutes about Leyton Orient but not so much a word about us.

Feck em. Dismissing us........just like last year.

I still see Shakey going for Morgan, if fit!!   Or Amartey...When Benny went off, I reckon he didnt want to risk yet another

Potential CB injury, so he turned around  the substitution.

Nomatter!!  we will see what Shakey decides on Tuesday.

Regardless of who Shakey pick to have any chance we've got to create width. Their too tight and strong for Vardy to go it alone. Width will force them to keep another defender back while also creating space for others coming from midfield.

Which is why I'd go with an extra man in midfield and 3 at the back. We need to stop them further up the pitch.

We also need to be less wasteful with the Ball in possession. Easier said than done but if we're going to win this one we're going to have to be at our very best. It's just a shame we don't have more recovery time as if it goes to ET and Penalties we could be found wanting.

A thought for this Athletico game....

Even if we could of picked our best team and Bench, would not guarrantee a win or further progress. So Shakespeare will have his thoughts, and what tweeks and flexability he will allow himself.

Give him ,the selected group ,your support dont start dissing off his selection or individual players. We have what we have..so be it. Dont become like the Spurs fans and moan and blubber, stand proud, before during and after the game!!!

We all have the right to expect 100% from the players and coaching staff for this game,

but remember where we are, who we are playing, and its our players 1st ever CL quarter final.

They have already done us proud, let our bias not over shadow, we are the underdogs, they Amadrid have better technical quality players than us and are equal on fighting qualities....

Who cares..!!!!!  Our team has something more...

the unknown, proven suprising  technical nous, never say die, and downright stubborn extra fight than most.....not forgetting we are going to get the ref on our side..

I have no feeling or any idea how it will pan out, but I denounce now  any and all Of you who

can only come out with negatives...in the run up, during and short aftermath of the game.

If/when we win you can post what the hell you like........because no one will give a toss.

Cos we know what we are...I am going to enjoy , soak up  and taste Every fking minute.

The stress, the various tense moments, the short and long memories, the tears of joy,

None ever flow for the  sorrow. The only pain would be if we totally implode.

But you know what , the dream will go on and on.Cos we cant lose!!

Lack of an away goal is a real blow. If they score 1, we need 3. Still, 2-1 up at the KP with 10minutes to go and it could happen!

The away goal is actually overvalued. The chances of us winning 2-1 are about 6% and all other combinations of us winning 3-2, 4-3, 5-4, etc add up to about 2%.

We were big underdogs before the tie and we're still big underdogs, the tie hasn't really changed much for both sides in their chances of going through.

I'm being Captain Obvious here but the next goal in this tie is massive.

Here in Germany, I have quite a mix of Italian football crazy friends, neighbours or aquaintances.

Yes many said it was a shame, some thought it woulf be an EOS descision, that said those who made

Leicester quasi their 2nd team, were neither suprised nor negative towards Leicester, after the first Humourous

Quips and jokes, thought it could well have  happened after Christmas.

Not all live in cloud Ranieri land, though like all of us were proud of their own Don and the surrounding hype.

German and Dutch ditto

Dont forget the media hype, sympathies and suprise were normal reactions..

What would of your thoughts been, if it was WBA, Stoke or Everton  having these last seasons, and Ranieri

being there for that title win...???

Our comments might well lean towards the heavy Mob.

Good evening,

Atlético's supporter here. I was reading to you like a snipper for knowing your thoughts but I couldn't stand and I need to write to you.

First: Respect for you. Leicester is a worthy rival and surely the second leg will be hard for us.

Second: It's imposible to me to understand why people here write that Filipe Luis isn't a good defender. Read that analysis about him is like if I would said that Jamie Vardy isn't fast or strong to me. Filipe Luis is amazing when he attacks, yes, but also he is one of the best defensive fullbacks in the world (or the best): he is weaker than others in the aerial duels but he is incredible on tackles, marking, positioning and 1vs1. I know that Filipe struggles in Chelsea but think you about the fact that he faces against Messi and Bale about four times in a year and generally he plays really well. He is really complete. Honestly, Riyad Mahrez is an amazing dribbler but in Spain we wouldn't be suprised if he couldn't win against Filipe; Messi has not been able to win many times against Filipe Luis

For example: Filipe Luis last year semifinal UCL match against Bayern Munich

Good luck, buddies

Be proud of your team.

Cheers. I'd wish you luck too but you've probably paid the referee again and won't need luck.

Classless and totally unwarranted.

You say this, and it isn't definitely untrue, but they were professional against Seville for the most part.

Yeah, wasn't the banter before the match that we'd received the wealthiest ref UCL could muster?

And I know about the history, but yeah...seems a little low to go there. Came in peace, etc.

Very decent of you old chap ;)

Believe me it is Atletico that will need the luck on Tuesday, we maybe technically inferior and lack In experience in the Champions League, however, you will not know what's hit you with with our pace, heart, fight and passion.

Most of us are basing our thoughts on other people's opinions, to be fair.

Nice contribution anyway. We always run in to you lot in Europe, Atletico are part of our footballing story.

The penalty of having to buy the referees in the previous rounds is that then in the final we have no money to pay him and we lose. Hopefully this year we will break the bank and we finally win the Champions League with three goals offside, mate!

It wasn't penalty, no doubt about it. But, in the other hand, few minutes later could be one (Ndidi against Saul). No matter. I think the referee favoured us.

Yes, maybe 2-0 but without Gameiro we struggle against a good defense. Torres is his backup and he is really irregular. Griezmann and Gameiro play very well together and we miss Gameiro's pace a lot (In the first half, Griezmann played really free of mark and I think that you would have paid these advantage with Gameiro against Huth.

Simeone is playing the perfect playoff for him: 1-0 at home in first leg (He respects Leicester a lot and knew that an away goal would have hurt much. Atletico slows down after the goal. The priority was not to concede) and playing away the 2nd leg: Atletico de Madrid is really dangerous playing away. Simeone will play to score a goal.
