Hong Kong pre season

I guess it was that or back to Thailand. At least it's early enough and gives us plenty of time to settle back into the uk in time of the serious work of preparing for the League.

There's a pretty big difference between heading to the Far East for two games three weeks before the season starts, and doing Glasgow>Los Angeles>Stockholm>Wembley over a three week period, with the Los Angeles stop essentially being a trophy tour as well as a game.

If this trip is true we'll be back in the UK by 24 July, two friendlies to play on 28 & 01 August, the marquee home friendly on 05 August then to the season opener on 12 August.

Exactly.  A bit surprised by the negativity.  In any event, our poor and complacent start (and middle?) to the season was far from simply explained by jet lag.  I like it that we are in demand around the world.  I want to see an increase in the revenue of the club.  Some people are being very parochial here.

Yes, for high altitude training& fitness, the most important part of pre season. The owners have seen the dollar signs I'm afraid.

Do you blame the owners for that? I certainly dont they should be making as much money as they can, what do you expect them to say ' we will play Hereford instead' ? I think you are going a bit over the top with your reaction. Like others have stated its nothing like last season. Nearly ALL premier league teams do this so there cant be any excuses regarding fitness, and lets be honest there not going to fly cattle class are they and stopping in bidget hotels.

Training in Hong Kong during the summer will give them a tough training session with 35+ degrees and about 100% humidity.

For people who have pumped as much money into this club, i cant blame them. besides, we are not an established brand like man U or Chelsea.. we have to take certain steps if we  want to establish ourselves as a global brand.

I'm hoping people will see that a 'world tour' can be done the right way.. and im also hoping people will see in time that our poor first half of the season was more down to the tactics/formation and team selections of Ranieri than the pre-season we had...

I know. My point is that other clubs make it work. Yes they're just better than us anyway but there's no reason we can't make it work if it's done properly, which last season wasn't. The dates for this tournament from what I remember seeing look earlier and less travelling between games obviously. It's just irritating looking at people moan because we're a more fancied club now and are invited to these sort of things, they're just stuck with this small club mentality that we can't leave the East Midlands in pre-season

I just love the way you feel qualified to judge people you don't know over one comment.

My point is we don't need to chase around the world suffering jetlag. We will no doubt be in Thailand at the end of the season. Then the players return to jet off on holiday. To return for pre season and to jet off again.

For what an extra few pound notes. It's not for the benefit of the players and will not help our pre season training.

But hey you just judge people.

didn't we play in Thailand and beat Everton in that friendly tournament?

This is better than last summer to be honest. At least we're not travelling the world from USA to Sweden within the space of a few days. HK and Shanghai are relatively better than the shite last summer.

Hong Kong in July is considerably hotter and a lot higher humidity than England at the same time, so in a way this could be a high intensity training session

Doing the same exercises as they would here would still be considerably harder due to the climate so this may not even be a bad thing

The error we made last season was playing in so many different places and different timezones. If you notice, we were the only side in ICC what went through the timezones. Other teams had a base for a week to ten days (except Inter who played America then Ireland). That's where we made the mistake. Barca stayed in Europe but still played in the ICC for example.

So why is it other clubs that go off on tour in pre season don't seem to suffer? The post season tour/holidays/pre season your isn't exclusive to us

I'd still prefer it to be 2 hours from Cardiff............. Max

At least it won't be like last year being lauded for winning the league

It'll be little old Leicester are in town. Normal service resumed    ;)

Perhaps because the players are used to it. But it's not about them or the money. It should be about what's right for us to give us the best chance possible for the new season.

Not taking a few £'s to promote the prem. That's all it's about because they don't want championship clubs.

I'm not one to believe footballers should have super powers when it comes to being/staying fit just because they earn a lot of money, but our sports science team have been very good for a number of years now. Other clubs cope, if we can't cope when we're more or less on the same level fitness wise then maybe our backroom staff aren't as good as I thought. So long as whilst we are out there we are doing the same things we'd be doing at home or in a training camp in Austria, the only other thing is then jetlag. And that doesn't contribute to poor results for the first 7 months of the season.

Might as well go for it. Only 2 games.

We look at last summer unfavourably given the start we made but we'll have it all to prove again next year so less of a threat going on this.

Besides Shakespeare wont surely let the situaton deteriorate all that much should he get it full time!

This ain't bad. We'll be playing decent PL sides so will have some idea of the level we're at, prior to heading into our proper pre-season with games at lower league clubs and at home.

More time away from the cryo chamber and home comforts.

I guess the club will have learned some lessons from last year, lets hope so.

I expect they're resurrecting the dentists chair in readiness for our lot!

If only there was some other way of knowing what kind of level we're at as a Premier League club that wasn't just meaningless friendlies... :D
