I'm so with you Fox92. Do people forget about the financial restraints with in the game. The fact we will need to clear the wage bill to make room for new players. As a club we are supposed to show loyalty but Mahrrz has done great for us its ok if he wants to go. It don't work both ways. Do people in here hold players in higher regard than the club? Sorry no room in this game for sentiments. So if you don't want our club captain to be sold for 5 million to a rival club you hold him in higher regard than the club? It's not just about sentiment. Morgan has been a great defender and he leads by example. Why would you not want him at the club?
MC Prussian Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 I wouldn't sell him. He needs to stay, he's been one of the main identification figures over the past few years and someone younger centre-backs could learn an awful lot from. His experience is also invaluable. However, it's quite clear that we ought to start thinking about a suitable replacement for him, as he is our oldest mainstay defender and unfortunately not getting any better. We should look at somebody in the 20- to 25-years old bracket who can gradually grow into the role, so we'd see Wes equally play less minutes in 2017/2018 as we go along.

With his back he may only have a few games left. If a club want to pay for him let them take the risk.
FrankieADZ Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 Newcastle have been linked with a shed load of defenders and have a god few there already i think, though this article is in the Sun and we know the spit ball they write at time

He's shown under Shakey despite his age he's not on the decline yet and still 1st choice. He's been club captain in the most successful era of out club, and you want to ship him out for a plastic 5'er and a bag of skips? Have a word. People talk about Kasper's behind the scenes worth, Wes has that too. Lets just keep these players forever then. Have Morgan at the back at 90 years of age, I mean he played in our most successful era ever so he deserves it right???

If we lose kasper as well it would be a disaster losing your captain and vice captain. Agreed. They say between them two and Kingy make up the players union.

He's our leader? Where the f was he was he when we kept conceding all those goals. It was only Schmeichel who looked like he cared.
TrentFox Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 Insane decision if we sold. Even if he isn't first choice next season, (big if), can you really imagine we could have as reliable a back up at £5m or, realistically, less!? I can't.
ithuriel Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 Bad bit of business to contemplate from my view point. We have a good team spirit and do not yet know who from this team will be off in the summer. Last thing we should be doing is flogging off our current captain on the cheap to a rival.

Then the first two players you mention Huth Fuchs Really? Should've made it a bit clearer. I said the next long-term captain could learn from Morgan, who I mentioned could be Gibson a bit further down the post, but if Morgan were to go now the next in line would be Kasper, Huth, Fuchs etc.
Nalis Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 Dont think it would be a good move for us, Wes or Newcastle.
VLC86 Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 Honestly read this thread back and tell me it isn't mental. Sell our captain as he's injury prone after being out injured once in about 5 years but Benny? Nah he's the next Maldini. Deluded.

You don't need 5 CBs Ffs

Ted Maul Posted 14 May 2017 Posted 14 May 2017 On the same weekend we had to put our left back in at centre half against one of the best teams in the league, people would actually sell our club (PL winning) captain to one of the sides which we will be competing for positions with? Madness. Wasyl will retire, Shakey obviously doesn't see enough in Amartey, so we'd be left with Huth and YB29- we should be keeping Wes and signing a younger model to integrate alongside those 3.
