If so, I can see him being first choice for Shakey and Co. I like him better than Gibson. Keane, now he's beefed up a bit, would be great to have back. Can't see us signing two starting CBs though. Not that I don't think we should (before tirades start) just that I can't see it happening. Any word on Justin James from Luton?

Clearly they are trying it on - why wouldn't they. However, they know we want him and they know we want to get our business done as early as possible. It's not much different to us telling mahrez' suitors to pay it or pee off. If the player makes it clear that we are his preferred destination then we should get him in the end for a reasonable fee. We should get involved in an alternative CB deal asap to make dull worried and the player should tell them to sort out a deal with us before we buy someone else or he will see out the last year of his deal there and leave for nothing next summer.

A year on and the boat has been well and truly missed, and lots of hindsight experts saying we should have paid the fee when we had the chance.

If there are multiple clubs lining up then Hull can raise their price If you were Hull right now would you sell? You have parachute payments so there is no reason to sell, particularly players like him who won't be on a massive wedge. If you think he will stay and be the rock that helps you get back to the Premiership then you'd never sell and let him get you promoted and walk at the end of season.
