He would be a great signing for us, he's a big lad and could potentially replace Huth. I'd personally rather him over Gibson and he will probably be cheaper. He's looked absolute quality in some games

His passing is underatted, he's a better passes than Wes and Huth

Mate even Jon Rudkin is probably a better passer than Wes and Huth

Not sure where people get the idea we can and should be doing better. We signed the square root of **** all last summer when we were premier league champions and in the champions league, why are we suddenly a more attractive proposition?

We best just give up now then. Can someone tell the guy in the corner to throw the towel in.

I think it was the game against Palace, I turned on and a Hull player was in the middle of the park stroking it about really well, great control and passing.... took me a minute to realise it was him having pushed up into midfield for a moment.

He made a pass vs Boro cutting through the back line, he's not just a cart horse.

Not quite, fans need to lower their expectations is all im saying. We signed very badly when we were a very attractive proposition, we aren't suddenly going to get huge names. Maguire would be a perfectly good signing for us

We are now favourites to sign him at 13/8. Some nibbling at 2/1 has brought it in

Was 11/2 about three days ago. Sinking 'ell

Players like Maguire know they will be back-ups at the top six clubs. better to sign with us and get a chance at regular football

I'd be very happy with this. Personally would like us to go for Gibson as well.

not with skybet

highest I saw was 9/4

Been between us and Spurs thus far and they are drifting over 2/1 now

It was skybet! Spurs were favourite and we were 11/2. Im sure... Might be wrong though

Was 33/1 about three weeks ago when he was first linked... I had a nibble at that price lol

Funny thing is we've not been linked at all since, and yet the odds have tumbled. I don't understand bookies (or punters) when it comes to transfers...

I think there's been a few tenuous links eg the Mercury but yeah nothing official.

So did NP. We showed 'interest' before he signed for Hull. Wouldn't match their offer as I recall !

Yes I remember that done him good to get a season in the prem now as well, hopefully we'll get him.

Ive been saying this for a while. Gibson and Maguire would be 2 solid signings. Young, English and prem experience. I got shot down for saying this by people saying we should sign Acerbi. Yeh lets sign an ageing centre back whos never played in the prem over 2 prem experienced young lads. But what do i know?

I don't understand bookies odds at all. How much is based on the bookies 'probabilistic assessments' and how much where punters put their money? its a bit off subject, so apologies in  advance, but does anybody know?

Good question, and I don't know for sure but it is something I've pondered in the past but have been too lazy to look up.

It does occur to me that if there are N possible outcomes to an event, and if for outcome i the odds given by bookies are Oi, and the amount of money laid on outcome i is Mi, the money paid out in the event of outcome i is Mi x Oi. The bookie gets to keep the total money taken (T) less the money taken for outcome i.

If the bookie wants to break even for any possible outcome, then Mi x Oi = T - Mi

Rearranging: Mi x (Oi +1) = T

therefore Oi + 1 = T/Mi

or Oi = T/Mi -1

Which gives a formula for setting the odds to break even under all circumstances.

In practice it is obviously not so simple. Firstly the bookie needs to make a profit, so these odds are too generous. He would need to be less generous but still needs to compete with other bookies, so the resulting market would drive actual odds.

Secondly, this formula assumes that you know the final amounts taken for each outcome at the time the odds are set, which is clearly not the case, so can't be the actual way things are done in practice.

My maths is rather rusty, so please feel free to correct if I've made a mistake.

If we could get Maguire, Gibson and Gylfi, I think we would be challenging for top six next season. All of them have premiership experience, which is vital when you look at the performances of some of our signings last season. the only one that seemed to adapt to the premiership immediately was Ndidi.

Add a striker, a centre mid & a right back n without a doubt top 6 should be the target.
