If there are multiple clubs lining up then Hull can raise their price If you were Hull right now would you sell? You have parachute payments so there is no reason to sell, particularly players like him who won't be on a massive wedge. If you think he will stay and be the rock that helps you get back to the Premiership then you'd never sell and let him get you promoted and walk at the end of season. Your logic about parachute payments would be great if it was another club. But the Hull owner let them kick off with 14 senior pro's last season. He's still pissed because he can't change the name. Hull + logic does not equate.
sdb Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 Good player but anything over £15 mill would be embarrassing. I said the same about Keane 12 months ago but I'm definitely right this time!!!

It will be interesting to see what fees Keane and Maguire go for in the summer as both are worthless to their current clubs in a year's time. I'd imagine Burnley can afford to play hardball more as they're in the Premier League. Both clubs will want them sold though so it's still a buyers market.
SheppyFox Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 We don't buy players, we buy clubs. We are MASSIVE.
sylofox Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 seems I was a little wrong it's €25m so about £22m. Rudders in talks with the players agent today it seems.

We usually drive a hard bargain. I hope it doesn't let us down although as I stated already, if the player wants to come here we will get him - eventually. (Unless a top six side hijack the deal and make him promises about playing time).
sk3since03 Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 15m is a bit steep but i guess that's pocket change in todays sorry state financially in football All the same though, a suitable addition
Ric Flair Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 Just get him in. Pretend he cost £3 million of it makes you feel better.

Babylon Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 The asking price has long been rumoured to be £22m. The lad could be here for a decade, pay the money. I wager the same experts who say no now are the are the same ones who moaned about being linked with a league one centre back for £2m a few years ago (him).

I was one of those saying we shouldn't be paying any more than £15m for Keane last year and I couldn't have been more wrong because he's worth £30m+ now and we would have had a fantastic young CB in our team. Let's not make the same mistake twice. Like it or not, circa £20m is the going rate. That said, if Slutsky is a fan of Musa then it makes sense to offload him as a make-weight if we can.
Happy Fox Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 £25m! He's worth £8m at best. We could get someone of Smalling's Ilk for £15m, I would have no problem with the club ditching this target.
justfoxes Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 Along with us possibly signing Maguire is it now possible we could go in for Keane at Burnley who's allegedly said to be snubbing Man Utd due to wanting to play first team football due to the up coming World Cup in Russia ?

If that's common knowledge enough for you to know it then that means we have been given permission to talk to the player by hull. Doubt they would have done that if we weren't close to agreement on price.

I was going to reply to Babs and the people claiming Kean was not worth it are perhaps the ones now saying we should have done it. But you owned up to it.

Ted Maul Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 No point even looking at the fee being paid. Rightly or wrongly, transfer fees under £30m are nothing in this division. If he's going to improve us, just get it done- a £20m addition who will be in our side for years is better than a £10m option who isn't right for us and having to buy again next year. We bottled the more expensive options last summer and look where it got us- an operating profit and a load of shite who couldn't get in the team.

st albans fox Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 Some of you are missing the point re valuation at this stage of a contract the player deliberately runs down his contract so he can get a better package at his next club which reflects the difference between his value and the fee approriate, given the length o/s on his deal. So if maguire is worth 25 mill with 2/3 year contract remaining , we will say he is only worth 12m now and his agent will ask us for a chunky 6/8m s/o fee. The numbers are negotiated around this. The whole s/o fee isn't paid upfront but more likely as an initial chunk and an annual loyalty bonus. If hull are insisting on 20m+ then maguire will lose most of his s/o fee. Guess that's up to him. He could stay there and take the whole 20m himself next summer but the risk is he gets an ACL next February and ends up on the dole come June !
Babylon Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 I've been impressed when I've seen him, we need to readjust what we think players are worth. People who can't trap a ball now go for £15m+
