Politics Thread (encompassing Brexit) - 21 June 2017 onwards

Recommended Posts

So Danny facking Dyer voted leave because he's sick of politician's doing fack all, but now he's pissed off that politicians are doing fack all to solve an issue caused by his voting for something that David Cameron didn't want him to, although David Cameron's a facking twat for causing this (presumably for not explaining well enough why he didn't facking want him to vote for facking Brexit).

A facking riddle indeed.

Confirmation that Cameron did in fact ask Obama to throw in the "back of the queue" line - as I think most on our side suspected at the time.

A former key aide to Barack Obama has confirmed David Cameron personally asked the US president to warn Britain would be "back of the queue" for a post-Brexit trade deal.

Ben Rhodes, an ex-White House adviser, admitted Mr Obama's dramatic intervention in the EU referendum campaign came at the personal request of the former prime minister.

In April 2016, two months before the Brexit vote, the former president used a visit to London to caution the UK would not be a priority for a trade deal with America if British voters chose to quit the EU.

With Trump looking to ride roughshod, this is pretty much a moot point.  In fact, all Brexit discussions are until we find out what comes out of Fridays meeting.

Really feels like do or die time.

So many variants on trade, we don't know what will happen yet, in fact we don't even know if we'll even be able to do independent trade.

It's not a moot point though, we have confirmation our own Prime Minister, during a political campaign, asked a foreign leader to stand up and threaten his own people to try and scare them into voting one way, it's absolutely disgraceful.

Whole idea of the so called Great Repeal Act - implement the lot, keep the good bits, remove the bad bits.

It is but it didnt work and he resigned.  That’s why I think it’s moot.

But 'they' (current Conservative MP's) didn't vote against it's creation as they weren't even born.

Poor attempt at cheap points scoring is that...

The moment the voted through Rawnsley's Health and Social Care Act they voted for the destruction of the NHS. The public don't realise how sweeping the privatisation of the NHS was enacted in that legislation. It's only what it would do to then electorally that has kept it intact at all.

A bit like Corbyn attending a peace rally when the last Labour government led us into a war, then.

Whats's your point?

Tories = Evil Bad

Labour = Amazing Good

This is always the point.

The last Labour government also gave us Mid Staffs and PFI for the NHS.

What’s the big deal with 70 years? It’s not a landmark.

It is to socialists, it has lasted longer than the Soviet Union so they must be improving :p

Thought the same, it's weird. The new state religion.

I don't get the 70 year celebration thing either.  What next? A celebration of the Highways Agency's birthday.

No other country, other than tinpot ones, would celebrate a public body like this.

If it was 100 years, I might understand but 70 years is as notable as 69 for me. I’m baffled by it.
