Mahrez is difficult to replace; he has an x factor even if he can frustrate. However, he was nothing when he signed. Our League win shows that the unexpected lurks. I am a fan of Amartey. Including him, our defensive options, bolstered by Maguire, look strong. We gave three midfielders who stand out: Drinkwater, Ndidi and Iborra. Mendy could come good. James could return. Vardy has a last great season in him. Gray waits to be unleashed. Albrighton is an asset. Okazaki and Slimani are quality. I don't know much about Barnes. I'm sure there will be one or more signings. Appleton has knowledge of lower league quality. Next season could be another interesting one.

I think with Maguire, Simmo, Fuchs, Chilwell and/or Huth and Morgan we're not looking awful defensively. Could be better, but decent. And Ndidi is undoubtedly great in defensive midfield. And I have no reason to think Albrighton won't carry through his excellent form. The big area for me is the link from midfield to the strikers - something notably lacking last season. Danny could well have another great season but AmarteyAndChill fairly pointed out he's a great box to box midfielder not a creative midfielder. Someone posted worrying Shakey would revert to 'negative' tactics. I'm not sure. But there's a chance we'll have a decent premiership defence, but no ngolo creating chances from nowhere, no mahrez weaving attacking magic, no pushing attacks down the wings heading out the cross to create a counter, but two lonely, lonely strikers watching teams slowly breaking down our defence.

Lovejoy Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 We won 7 of our last 13 league games, finishing the season with Benny and Fuchs at centre back. That's not bad. I don't think major surgery is needed, just two or three quality additions.

Thracian Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 If Iborra signs, he and Maquire wlll have made a solid start to recruitment. I just feel we need some cream and some attention being given to replacing Mahrez and increasing our pace, and consistent creativity. With James back in the fold we don't need much more defensively apart from proper competition at right back. Everything we need on top is related to creating goalscoring opportunities and having a specialist free-kick taker.
