TAFKA Castroneves Posted 14 July 2017 Posted 14 July 2017 Hey all, I was just reminising about the past few years and then got thinking about the times before our Premier League win (the ultimate underdog story obviously) where we were in matches or scenarios where the odds were against us again - and how we did. There are some really obvious ones - like the Great Escape run to survive in the Prem, Man Utd at home in the Prem where we turned the game on it's head etc But two that always sticked out for me personally was actually two individual games we lost - but still performed above and beyond what we should have. The first being us against Aston Villa in the League Cup at the KP in 2006 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_cup/6072636.stm I was a poor student at the time - with very little disposible income beyond the pub - but with this being Martin O'Neill's return to Leicester I just had to go to the game, it was the O'Neill era as a child that made me a City fan through and through (bearing in mind my old man had moved from Leicester down south so i've never lived in the city). I remember there was a pretty decent crowd - and O'Neill turned up with a strong Villa side. We were on the slide - but had a bit of central midfield crisis to deal with at the time and ended up with a thrown-together pairing of Stearman and Wesolowski. It was a typical battling performance against the odds, but despite being a vastly inferior side we took them all the way to extra time - before we finally slipped and allowed Agbonlahor to escape for (what seemed to me) the first time in the game to get knocked out as i was just saying to my mate, "i've never seen a pen shootout in person" - Despite us ultimately losing 3-2 in Extra Time I was proud at how hard our lads worked against the odds to give them the toughest time possible. The second was a game I missed because i went down to London a day early so sacked off the second day - and that was against Chelsea in the League Cup at Stamford Bridge a year later - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_cup/7065182.stm I ended up seeing a stream of it with a mate from Uni and despite how the writing was on the wall for how bad our side was - we gave them a massive fright that they were not expecting. The one and only time i've ever celebrated a Carl Cort goal - the excellent Marton Fulop kept us in the game early on - and we took our chances when they fell to us, it was three minutes from being a massive scalp - until Shevchenko decided to turn up for a small part of his Chelsea career. Once again though despite the loss i was very proud of them all for the effort - and for pushing the oil-rich side right to the very brink of a shock exit. Anyways, I was interested in what personal "underdog" moments about City you guys personally remember? There are no doubt tonnes from the pre 90's that not even i'm fully aware of! What are your Leicester City "underdog" stories? (of course let's exclude the Prem title )
Kitchandro Posted 14 July 2017 Posted 14 July 2017 Man City in the cup a few years ago. We were brilliant that night. Should have won but took them to a replay. And obviously Sevilla last season.
Stadt Posted 14 July 2017 Posted 14 July 2017 Fulham 4-3 in the league cup, we probably weren't underdogs in that game but we still beat a prem team whilst we were in the championship - brilliant game.
ajthefox Posted 14 July 2017 Posted 14 July 2017 Cardiff play-off second leg. Until it went wrong obviously.

Subs Not Used: Henderson, Hellings. To think this was the last year I had a season ticket.

I remember being excited that we'd signed Sergio Hellings - using logic that someone behind the scenes had to be using Football Manager and he'd be like another Zarate/Tevez signing the truth of course being he was a Mandy backhander

The whole year was just a nightmare.
urban.spaceman Posted 14 July 2017 Posted 14 July 2017 One of the best nights of my childhood. We actually played really well in both legs and deserved something from it. The refs performance still sickens me but the sound of the Kop and the East Stand still rings in my ears. Until the Sevilla home match that was easily the best and most memorable Leicester City match I'd ever attended. The result was immaterial. We did ourselves proud against a European elite and their bent referee. Sound familiar?
Aus Fox Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 2-0 down at home to spurs, witg arguably the worst team of the last 30 years, and De Vries storms back for a winner 3-2. Bloody loved that game, a shining light in a very dark time for LCFC.

Typical Leicester-type underdog victory in that we had it at 3-1, nearly threw it away at 3-3 (unluckily really) and then came back to steal it. Cracking game, cracking personal memories for me
tom27111 Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 The Villa game that the OP mentioned.... Me and a mate were having a few beers in Soar Point, saw it was going to extra time so we jogged down there and just walked in through the exits It's pretty frightening how shit we were. The team, not me and my mate. Although that was pretty shit of us!
Fox92 Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 Remember when we played Villa again under O'Neill at Villa Park and we beat them

Old Fox Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 One for the grey hairs......: 1980-81 Season away at the all conquering Liverpool team that had gone on an unbelievable unbeaten home run of 85 games and Jocks boys turned up - behind at half time before Paddy Byrne and Jim Melrose turned the form book upside down to end the run. I was only a young boy but my first visit to Anfield and to witness the Kop applauding at the final whistle was truly memorable!!!

Filberts lovechild Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 Swindon play off final was heartbreaking, 3-0 down, amazing comeback to 3-3 game was only going one way. Penalty Swindon. 8 year old boy that cried all the way home ?

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 July 2017 Posted 17 July 2017 Danny Cadamarteri's late goal against Fulham in the cup was great. And obviously
Blue ROI Posted 17 July 2017 Posted 17 July 2017 The away win v Forest in 2012/13 would have to be right up there with one of the great days in recent history of the club. Even with everything that's happened since. No away win for nearly 4 months, 1 win in 12 games and 41 years without a league win at forest. Little chance of pulling this off. Miss out on the playoffs and Pearson is probably shown the door along with Vardy going into further decline or even being sold off never to be heard of much. Leave the ground with our first win in 4 decades after late drama and somehow sneak into the playoffs.Forest spend the next 4 seasons falling down the table,Bolton Wanderers the next 3, Leicester's Golden Era begins.Things will never be quite the same again....

Great shout - another game that slipped my mind a bit, I remember really loosing control when Knockaert got it in after that sexy counter attack - we'd had some really rough games at their place until that one over the previous years - the one where Schmeichel got sent off after the dodgy pen felt the worst despite it ending up a draw, I hadn't felt that mugged off in ages - especially when their centre midfield was like Greening and Boateng (36/37 years old) and they generally had a terrible side
