Tuna Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 Difficult to make too many predicitons until we've all completed our transfer window. If Swansea lose Siggy and Llorente, I'll predict another season of struggle and I've been massively underwhelmed by Huddersfield and Brighton's business so far. I can see Benitez packing it in very early on in the season if Newcastle fail to make signings in the window, he's already sounding frustrated. I'd be worried about Burnley as well, very unambitious football club.
NewEnglandFox Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 Weren't we "almost guaranteed" top 7 last year? Or were the words used then "by default?"

funkyrobot Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 It's a bold statement to say we are going get into the top 10 when we've lost our star men Ron-Robert Zieler and Bartosz Kapustka. Without these two talismans we will surely struggle.

bpfox Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 IF WE COULD FIND ARE WAY TO 3-4 TOP SIGNINGS THEN MAYBE UR STATEMENT HAS MERIT OTHER WISE IT WILL AGAIN BE A UP HILL BATTLE.

That would build both internal and external pressure around the club making it anyone's guess where we'd be at Christmas, let alone the end of the season. Our season will depend on what we do, not what others don't. I'd rather face the big teams before they've had a chance to find form though and put a run of results together I think we will pick up surprise points early on

It's much easier to play these games further into the season when rotation and other competitions become a distraction. Momentum clearly helped our title winning season... from a kind run of fixtures the season before, that continued into the following season, meaning we were up the top early on, we also had continuous pockets of favourable looking fixtures that enabled us to keep picking up points.

I suppose, I'm still blindly optimistic

Then we have a real chance of getting early points on the board.
Dan Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 I'm actually fairly confident we will. I think the top 7 will be as expected. I can't see us coming ahead of any of them except for maybe Everton. Everton have made some good signings but they've made a lot in a short space of time, and that often takes a while to work out - factor in their season kicks off in about two weeks, assuming they don't completely **** the qualifiers up they will have another 10 games on top of their season, a lot of them potentially in eastern Europe, and you would imagine probably more on top of that. They have a good side but still not the finished article. I don't think it's improbable they drop off a bit. Southampton are usually steady, manager is an unknown quantity but they rarely get it wrong - even last year they still managed 8th and they considered it a poor season. They have a good squad and they're a side I think we'll be in competition with. West Ham I fancy us to come above. I don't think a great deal has changed from last year. They're a bit of a car crash in terms of their signings and I wouldn't be shocked if Bilic walks. They still have a decent-ish side but you always get the feeling not all is right there. West Brom. I've heard on Talksport when they list odds of teams to make the top 4, top 6 etc... they list the top 7, then "closely behind is Southampton & West Brom" - how on earth are West Brom regarded more dangerous than us? We absolutely flew from February to April last year in a way West Brom couldn't. They have a manager who has expressed his emphasis on 40 points a number of times and their form after hitting 40 under him cannot be a coincidence. I expect us to come above West Brom. I have no worries about Stoke, Crystal Palace (I fancy de Boer to flop), any of the promoted three, Watford, Burnley or Swansea. I'll be very disappointed if we come below any of those. Which leaves one team who I think could be a surprising rival. Bournemouth. I think they've done some decent business and are seemingly continuously on the up. THey came above us last year (although I think you'd argue they were very lucky to given what happened on the final day) but they're not a bad side and I expect them to be comfortably clear of relegation. If we added Iheanacho and 2/3 more I think we're looking well set to have a good season.
Corky Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 A fit and confident first team, playing without distractions of Europe and being defending champions, should have enough to get a decent haul of points. I just hope we are reasonably competitive in every game. The six match losing and scoreless run in the spell before Ranieri left was bad enough but the non-events at Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea set the tone really. We were drab for most of the season yet managed 44 points. We should have enough to improve on that with new additions and hopefully a squad with greater depth.
tom27111 Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 This thread is going to come back and bite us in the Arse when we're relegated by Easter.

I can quite imagine people thinking the same way if we lose Kasper, Mahrez and Slimani but, really, it's about who wears their shirts in the future (assuming they leave) and how much stronger can their transfer income make us in additional positions as well. It really depends on how "on the ball" we are in our recruitment department. The important thing is to emerge stronger both financially and as a team.
sylofox Posted 16 July 2017 Posted 16 July 2017 Why do I feel the OP could make my mates the ref look like an Aprils fool.
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 17 July 2017 Author Posted 17 July 2017 Well the pundits and host on the Jim White show on Talk sport this morning were very positive about our chances. Said we had done fantastic business especially if we get Nacho. The journo on the show said he thought Spurs would probably struggle at Wembley and he would not be surprised if we take their place in the top 4 ! Lets hope they are right.
GaelicFox Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 Honestly these threads are mental and people posting them obviously haven't been following this club long
lcfc sheff Posted 4 September 2017 Posted 4 September 2017 Top 10 and a bloody good cup run, that's all I'd expect. Stabilise the club again and build up slowly.
