Long Eaton Fox Posted 20 July 2017 Posted 20 July 2017 I started the "Come back soon Matty James" thread and I am very pleased to see that he has. From all accounts he's made a good start to the pre season stuff. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to come back from such a serious injury. Lets give him a chance because I think he can be a major player for us.
DanTheFox07 Posted 20 July 2017 Posted 20 July 2017 Agreed, met him at bournemouth game years back when we beat them in championship, very grounded guy and happy to talk to me so hoping we keep him and he can put his injury nightmare behind him now. He is more than good enough to make an impression in this squad in my opinion! means we don't have to keep the likes of mendy now.
Guest Posted 21 July 2017 Posted 21 July 2017 Great guy, good player. Really happy to see him get the Captain's armband against WBA and I can see him fighting his way back into the team, especially when a calm head is needed in midfield.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 21 July 2017 Posted 21 July 2017 I reckon he'll be playing next to Ndidi as first choice next season!

foxfanazer Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 I'm so happy for him coming back and doing a fairly good job considering the extent of his injury. Time will tell whether he can cement himself as a regular starter for us but for now I'm pleased with how he's doing
Tuna Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 You have to wonder whether Iborra will get much of a chance here if Drinky stays.
The Floyd Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Another pretty solid game from James, his positioning and discipline allows Ndidi more freedom to drive forward with the ball too.
Danizen Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Really happy for him. Coming back from an injury like that would be hard enough but imagine him going into training every day during the league winning season knowing he's not going to be a part of it. That must have been mental torture. He could quite easily be our next captain.
Clever Fox Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 I'm delighted to see him back. I always thought he was better than DD. His recovery I suspect is having a part in us allowing DD to possibly go. We need to get Niddi tied down on a long-term contract. Otherwise, He'll be poached soon. He's getting better with every game I see him play.

If we can get the reported 40 million for drinkwater and he wants to leave I think we should do it, unreal in the title winning season but was much less effective last year for tactical reasons I really cba to get into. My main concern with James is he's got a it of a history with that injury and should it reoccur we are going to need some options that don't involve Andy king playing week in week out (much as I love him)
dedlock Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Delighted he is back. He will hopefully get stronger and, with games under his belt, get back to the form he showed pre injury. While on paper we have a number of MF options the last two games have shown how quickly those options can be reduced. We will need Matty,DD,Ndidi,Iborra,Kingy, and Mendy, when fit, throughout the season. If all are fit then the competition will be good. Last season we were threadbare in MF at times and that has hopefully been addressed. My view ,if DD goes, Matty will have the opportunity to make the position his but we will still need a quality addition to provide options during the season, cope with injuries, any suspensions and ensure competition for places.

You're both mental. DD is our best midfielder. His form was crap from November last season due to injury. Before that he was just about our onky good player at the start of last year. It amazes me how fickle and blind our fans can be!
HankMarvin Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Not really seen anything to suggest he is or will be better than drinkwater from his performances so far. early days though

Jammy clearly stated 'on current form', James has been solid so far and as long as he continues to improve he should be in the starting XI, what's wrong with that? It wasn't suggested he was in anyway better than Drinky other than on current form and if it ain't broke don't fix it.
EnglishOxide Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 I think Shakey is old school like Nige. If you get injured, you lose your place and you have to wait for your replacement to dip in form, or for results and performances to be going against us. We don't change a winning team. Drinkwater won't just walk back into our team.

We where a far better team than he was a player and he would never be good enough for us now. It must be so comforting as a City player knowing the fans are behind you.
Koke Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 I like James, good steady player. Ì do worry for United away next week thouhh. Ndidi - James will be out numbered and overpowered.
Chico1958 Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 Every game I've seen he's done fine........ Long may it continue But, let's see what happens to Drinkwater before we make him our main partner with Ndidi
m4DD0gg Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 We were playing a really bad team yesterday. Lets see what happens next week as i suspect our midfield as lacking as it is will be completely overrun.
Buzzell Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 I'm glad he's proved me wrong. Welcome back Matty.

Have a look after next week and you will see what our season will be like, not after beating a dead cert relegation candidate.
