Rejecting a £50m would be poor form. if we've quoted £50m, I wonder what we would actually accept? £45m plus random add ons? I thought i read somewhere the owner saying he hasn't got a definite figure in mind be it 40 50 or 100 million yet will think about it when a big enough offer comes in. We're not selling him, it's all a ruse to see if we could have had some top player's agent offer us their player.

I know there's always a slight discrepancy for the exchange rate but you're living in a dream world if you think £40 million is enough. It would require a number of easy add ons for that to be anywhere near acceptable. I think we'll get offered a stupid amount late in the window by someone, probably Chelsea. Even if a late bid from Chelsea comes, how exactly are you going to replace him in let's say 2-3 days?

Nobody has ever said in public £50m, the only person who commented was Top and he said something like the figure we deem acceptable is a fluid thing. ie. they take the whole situation into account before deciding whether it's acceptable.
Swarles Barkley Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Tbf to wenger, if he was asked a question about mahrez, he only couldve said he was interested or wasnt. Said he wasnt, which is better and mahrez and everyone else can move on
FoxinNotts Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 We should have a replacement purchased already. Its obvious he's going. Whether that be in the next few weeks, or even in January. Why have we not bought one of the obvious replacements, mentioned numerous times in this forum! Most of them you can recruit for half the price we're expecting for Mahrez.

Now Leicester has to decide whether they prefer to take less money now, and have 2 weeks to get the replacement they want, or play the waiting game in the hope someone will knock at their door signing the right cheque. Bearing in mind that we all know most clubs get fleeced if buying someone last minute. Or, obviously, they could decide to keep an unhappy player.

Could be wrong but something odd's been going off seeing as how his manager and team mates have complemented him on his attitude during training.

He's said he's happy to stay at leicester if his valuation by the club is not met.

You assume we're desperate to sell Mahrez, we're not. Apart from Mahrez everyone at the club from the owners to the manager to the players want him to be a Leicester player at the end of the month. We are reluctant sellers remember and we generate more income than Roma, we don't need your money.

There is a difference between someone being unhappy and someone wanting to try something different in their career.

dedlock Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 The options for Mahrez have narrowed. It is looking like another season for City unless Roma come up with a sensible offer or there is a good offer from another club about to be made under the radar. The extra money in the game means we are not under pressure to sell nor to be hostage to any offers late in the window.

Fortunately for us, Mahrez doesn't appear to be kicking up much of a fuss about leaving. He has clear aspirations about playing at the highest level and as a club we have given him the platform to show glimpses of what he can do. We aren't going to just hand him over to Roma because it's the easy option. No disrespect to Roma but I believe at the time of his initial statement about leaving, he expected top clubs in England and maybe Spain to show an interest. He may still get that the longer this goes on. As for being unhappy, I think should he have been that desperate to go to Roma, he may have acted unprofessional, which he hasn't as of yet. He has a lot of friends at this club. He's paid a lot of money. He clearly has more respect for this club than some appear to think. He has the opportunity to put himself in the shop window in the next few months, should he not get the big move this summer.
Collymore Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 I think if he starts tonight it's a big indication that he'll be staying for the foreseeable future. £50m is a lot of money and the club wouldn't want to risk injury if they feel a deal is close. Also I'd imagine they'd want to get Gray playing and integrated as soon as possible if it's inevitable Mahrez is leaving.

I get the feeling Mahrez will start, and will likely be on the team until January. He'll have a few months to prove himself to other clubs. Hopefully he sticks it to Arsenal tonight.

Problem for him is that no elite club seem to be interested; as much as Roma isn't ideal at least is a step forward.

It's not about Roma, I'm used to winger like Rodrigo Taddei so my expectations are below zero on this one. It's about starting the season with a player that not so long ago has asked out. Never mind us... I'm asking: is that really the spot you want to be in entering a new season?
