Featured Comment DB11 Posted 10 August 2017 Featured Comment Posted 10 August 2017 Sheff Utd v Leicester - The second round matches will played on the week commencing August 21, with just one week of the season for Premier League teams before the midweek games come calling https://twitter.com/LCFC/status/895755370672664577

Dan Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 That was the most shambolic cup draw I've ever seen. What were they thinking? They're switching some of the ties already. Astounding.

Dan Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 3 minutes ago, Foxy_jim said: Why? What happened mate? Basically, they did this format of having three pots, seeded teams, unseeded teams, and a pot containing red and white balls which represented home and away (can't even remember which way around). They drew the Southern section first, Brentford v QPR was first out. They then went on to do the rest of them and they ended up realising half way through that they had been mixing up home and away teams. They kept on with the draw and now it's made they've started switching them. Thankfully ours is safe as I'd much rather them away than home but Brentford v QPR for example, is now at QPR. They cocked up the other bit too. Newport were in the Northern section so that they avoided West Ham as both teams had to be away and they drew Newport at home to Leeds that has since been switched to Elland Road. Total shambles. Why do people insist on making basic things so complicated?

Guest Bilo Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 Seed it if you must, but that's as complex as it should get. Northern and Southern sections with seemingly arbitrary borders that see two clubs in the same city in different sections, thereby destroying any chance of a Second City derby to liven up the round, as well as draws to determine whether the seeded gets home advantage or not can just get in the sea. Regionalisation is an idea I can live with in lower league and non league football where the cost of travelling from, say, Carlisle to Southampton can be crippling for a relatively minor competition but this isn't the Checkatrade Trophy or FA Vase. It's a major domestic trophy with a prize of Europa League football at the end of it, a major incentive for all but about 8 sides in the Premier League. It doesn't need all these silly gimmicks and fiddling with the format. Even if you use the argument that the competition doesn't get interesting until the last eight or so, it's not going to become any more interesting by drawing an arbitrary line across the country in the forlorn hope of getting a few more local derbies. The first two rounds are pretty dead anyway due to the lack of PL sides of any description in the first round, and those involved in European competition in the second. Seeding clubs like Reading and Hull isn't going to get the likes of Barnet and Wigan excited about hosting these clubs or crossing their fingers for a trip to the Madejski or the KC. Honestly, just stop messing with the format and let the football do the talking. Simple is better in my view, look at the FA Cup draw. A huge part of the excitement of third round draw day is that we could play literally anyone who's made it that far. We could be hosting Manchester United or travelling to Sutton United. No seeding, no regionalisation, no draw for home or away, just a good old fashioned lucky dip.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 John Salako only watches Neighbours; he finds Home and Away too confusing.
EastNeukFox Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 The reason that teams from the same area have ended up in both the north and south sections is because they also seed half the teams. Unfortunately the teams that won through the last round, don't match up geographically with the locations of the seeded teams, which I think is simply done on final league position in 16/17. So, all these examples being quoted of teams in the northern half whilst near neighbours or teams further north are in the southern half, will most likely be seeded and unseeded teams. Basically if the did one or other (north/south; seeded/unseeded) it would probably work, but doing both just makes it a bit farcical.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 Such a pants name for a cup, sounds like something you'd win for best dance routine at a family holiday park.
ajthefox Posted 10 August 2017 Posted 10 August 2017 Great draw. Good away day in a city I used to live in and am very fond of that isn't too far away.

Yeah he went down right in front of our end, got royally abused for the next 10 minutes and when he was stretchered off. Don't remember it kicking off but their lot were seriously unhappy about it all. They were even more wound up when we nicked the 1-0 win when we played absolute horse shit once Yakubu scored.
DatfoxesKid23 Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 can someone explain the EFL cup's selection process to me please

Ted Maul Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Lovely draw. I was recently thinking how much I hoped we drew a Sheffield side in the cup this season!
