Sheffield Utd Post Match Thread 4-1

We need to have a good cup run this season. I think it will help us maintain our momentum as an upwardly mobile club.

I am pleased that our second team played so well the second half. It was a good opportunity for squad players to get a game and for us to win somewhat convincingly.

As has been said, you can only beat the team in front of you, and even if they put out a lot of changes and they are a lower league team, they would have been trying hard to beat us and they are still a professional club. A lot of the new players from overseas need to have that sort of bedding in and to get kicked and harassed "on a cold Tuesday night in Sheffield". It will help them when playing in the league and I think their performances will improve when they are given a chance in the first team.

I don't think people are unfairly criticising Chilwell, it is concerning that he is still getting skinned easily by most wingers even at championship level after being in and around the first team for his 3rd season now. I am desperate for him to succeed here but his defending leaves a lot to be desired at times.

Opinions..opinions...You see I dont think he got skinned, plus like some are saying here, I dont believe Sheff.utd were poor....

And I will repeat, he often found himself alone.

I also, though not always with spitefull vain, Leicester fans spend too much time on over analysing, instwad of enjoying the result and the general play.....We win therefore oppo must be poor.

Fans seem to love in playing the hardnosed  pundit, then cry foul when outsiders do the same...

Ndidi even his good play, had some poor ball moments, It seems nobody wants to have a dig

(Me at least)  .Ndidi has had more top gametime at 1st team level, so shouldnt we also look at his negatives....(I wont)

I prefer to sit back and enjoy the cream movement of Slims 1st goal.Few picked up on it...

ULLOA...King then his throughball....beauty

Got to give Musa credit for sticking at it, but that first half performance was genuinely hilarious.

Surely he has a right to be rusty though having hardly played competitively since arriving?

They made seven changes.

Doesnt mean the replacements arent good enough...Sheff utd and city dished  up a good game...thats what people pay their pennies for.....

I haven't played football for years and I can stick kick a ball lol

Hope he succeeds to be fair, be nice to see him playing with some confidence at some point.

Enjoyed our away end, while it wasn't a loud one particularly it had the banter and feel of the good old championship ones. Great scenes for Musa's goal

1) Because they're supposedly inferior to our first XI

2) Because even it had been the first XI, it would have been impressive. It's not like we play high tempo stuff around the opposition box with plenty of runs and width on a regular basis.

You've missed my point. Regardless of what eleven starts we will play the same brand of football....

Also, high tempo football and width is exactly what we play! Isn't it?

I didn't explain myself well enough. I thought the quality was high, which surprised me.

Yes, we play high tempo, but usually laterally and on the counter. I thought I saw passages of play yesterday where we moved their defense about across the width of the pitch despite their back line being camped in the box. I found that impressive as we often don't do that very well once the space in behind has been closed off

Unpopular opinion but, I think slim makes us a better possession based team. He is different to vardy in a sense that he isn't too direct (and that's not a bad thing). Slimani drops deep to collect the ball and then he moves it to the sides which allows for a more fluid movement and that's a thing we lack in our two starting strikers (shinji and vardy)

Ben Hamer nervous and unsteady which probably put the back 4 under pressure. It's probably due to lack of first team performances but how does CS get him to start when the risk of that inexperience could cost us and Kasper will always be a first choice whilst fit?

So, by definition, if Kasper gets injured, Hamer would put us at risk.

Could we buy a better second string keeper?

Hamer looked fine to me yesterday, several good saves, apart from the slight spill from which he recovered. Not sure why so many people on here seem to detest him.

I think detest is a bit strong. I think he has doubters because he's seen as a bit of a liability given some dodgy reserve performances and in the games he did play last season.

not to mention being bombed out early from a loan spell by Bristol City after being utterly crap for them

Wasn't the only games he played last season Porto away and a U23s game?

Conceding 5 vs Porto with a reserve team in front of him doesn't bother me, as both Kasper and Zieler conceded 4 vs various PL teams with a first team in front of them.

We simply don't know definitively what level Hamer is at currently, purely because he hasn't had enough game time. Not playing competitive games doesn't mean he can't get better, I'm sure Kasper improved after returning from a spell out with injury.

Also being crap years ago doesn't mean he's still crap now - many of our players are evidence of this.

Based on what recent game time we can go on, I've been pretty impressed with what I've seen this preseason and this cup game. I'm happy for him to be second choice, personally.

Look at the game yesterday. Spilled the first shot but recovered fortunately. Totally out of position for the goal he conceded.

I honestly wouldn't rate him in league one never mind the Premier League.

I watched him warming up at half one pm on Saturday before most people were even in the ground and he really didn't inspire confidence even then.
