Sheffield Utd Post Match Thread 4-1

Quality night, really enjoyed it. I'm going to be unpopular for this but Slimani made my mind up for me tonight I just don't rate the guy. Fair play for his two goals, but his first he was fed through on a simple run, and rounded a keeper who was playing conference north and lower last season, his second was on a tee and he still managed to miss hit it. Other than that he very rarely challenged for any balls in the air, he was sloppy around the box, made some daft challenges and was bullied in parts by a championship teams reserve defenders. We paid £30m for this guy???

There is always one guy that likes to be funny. Your comment was funny I give you that, but apart from that, I didn't see the point of that comment.

Starting to think Chilwell will never be up to snuff. His defending is just awful. I know he's young still, but so much of defense is effort, he just doesn't seem as interested as he should be.

He needs to show improvement in this area, but it's the same story every time I see him. I do worry that he flatters to deceive.

Chilwell can do the hard stuff, just makes some naive decisions at times. With experience I really think he'll become a top player.

With 'experience'.... This is stuff he needs to work on in training. If you cannot do the 'simple stuff' right at his age yet, then there has to be question marks. I'm willing to give him more time, but right now I honestly don't want him near our defense.

Pitty we haven't another right back option I would have liked to have seen Amartey alongside Harry in the centre tonight cause he looks way better at centre back

The guy scores a hattrick* but convinces you he's not good enough... are you Thrac and did Slimani give you a queer look?

*I know he only scored two, but he had one wrongly chalked off for offside.

I'm wondering if CS has taken a player or two to one side and said 'look, I'm picking Hamer and Ulloa in order to get them seen and sold, that's all.'

And if a team ever needed someone like Ulloa, it's Brighton, who would be sped up by Leo on tonight's evidence!

Genuinely no matter how hard I try I cannot see the positives too him, I understand it's not popular with other fans but Slimani just doesn't do it for me.

He was pretty good tonight. His link-up was excellent, he made things happen, scored 2 goals and had his hat-trick wrongly disallowed, and you come here saying he was dreadful. Either you tuned in in the wrong channel or you were just trying to be funny, because I can't genuinely understand how can someone say he was dreadful tonight.

You put any striker within his role and they would have scored those goals, they would possibly have created more chances for themselves throughout the game. I've said it before he can be clinical, but to me he offers very little else.

His movement and energy were fantastic first half, someone needs to get in his head and try and make him keep it simple sometimes. His brain can't keep up with his feet.

He makes stuff happen good or bad he's a threat. There is something there, it's like trying to tame a bloody wild horse though.

He's like a Schlupp.

Chilly is just a little overconfident sometimes, leading to some lazy passes.

MUSSSSSA!!! Sorry, I'm rewatching the second half and he just scored!!!

Seriously? Today he offered far more - watch back and count how many times he dropped back and sprayed great balls around to get players in on goal (look at Musas chance 10 minutes in) or spread the play. If Drinkwater had shown the range of passing he did when he came short to get the ball they'd be shouting to add another 10m to the asking price.

Where was his link up excellent? He slowed play down around the box and proceeded to give the ball away or turn it back out to the midfield by which point the move had broken down. He looked fairly good on the counter but proceeded to play the wrong ball, granted there were times I thought we were slow to provide enough support to him. His two finishes would be expected given the quality of ball. My view was pretty good from the away end thank you. We are talking about a player who cost us £30m, yes two goals are great but he has very little to his game if he isn't provided the perfect ball.

His link-up was excellent, period. Only you are saying it wasn't. He isolated both Musa and Gray in the first half, and whenever he dropped deep he made the right decision and put pace in the game. Of course he must have made one or two bad decisions but every player makes them. I genuinely don't know if you are trolling or not, because it sounds like you are.

Barring slim, did any offer enough evidence they could take a starting spot.

Yes it was a comfortable win, but no disrespect to Sheffield united, they are not long out of league one, and made changes of their own.

The first half performance was shocking in terms of quality, and a few grew into the game, but cannot get carried away with what was on show.

Ulloa is finished at this level, time to drop a division im afraid.

Positves are the reserves got 90 minutes in, negative's didn't like the look of the ice pack on maguires knee.

Maybe I'm looking at it through my blinkers, bar one great pass out to the right wing I'm struggling to recall many more. As I said I'm happy to be unpopular on this one, I genuinely struggle to get excited about seeing him play for us. I'm not saying anyone else is wrong, I just really struggle to see how he fits the price tag.

MOTM for me. His goals were well taken but as you say, expect from a decent enough striker. What was far more impressive was when he dropped deep and managed to pick out some great passes. Something Okazaki and many of our midfield struggle to do. His attitude was great and he got himself into some great positions.

I would suggest you watch the game back and watch the many good things he did tonight apart from scoring a *hat trick. Otherwise, struggle to see any sense in your posts.

Like I have said you won't change my mind on him, I'm always happy for a player to prove me wrong but I'd need to see far more from him to be convinced.

Was at the game, sat among some Sheff Utd fans so had to stay quiet!!  Thought Chilwell looked good going forwards but towards the end of the second half wasn't great defensively, not sure if it's tiredness, lack of concentration, or overconfidence. He will improve here Im sure.

Maguire... what a signing. He's so huge I swear he has his own gravitational field which the ball cannot fight against, it always seems to land on his head when pumped into our box!!

Slimani did did well with his goals and Grays solo effort was sublime. Also thought Knight did well on his debut even though he wasn't on the pitch for long but looks a prospect.

It's time for Ulloa to go, he worked hard for the team and has a great first season with us but Slimani is faster, stronger, and a better player IMHO.

I struggle to believe it's overconfidence rather than lapses in concentration and poor judgement. It happens every time I see him in the first team.

First half, few came away with much credit although he played in Musa with a superb ball over the top.

Second half, he did so much good I genuinely don't know who you were watching. Think you'd change your mind if you watched it again but without that chip on your shoulder ?

Mediocre first half but came good in a very assured second half.

Hamer did ok in general but badly caught out for the goal. Not in Kaspers class.

Amartey was unspectacular but solid. Shakey has given him a bit of time and he's responded well.

Maguire not at the heights of the last 11 days but wasnt required. Chilwell a good ball player or mover but its a worry every time the ball is played down his wing and he tries to defend.

King really grew into the game after a patchy first half and played as well as he has done for a while. It's been puzzling why he's been on the bench ahead of a few but he is reliable inspite of his flaws.

Musa was gash in the first half but like King began to assert himself and I was pleased he got the goal. At least he got the goal in front of the fans instead of it being those 2 airshots! Put to good use his speed could be a major asset.

Gray outstanding and Slimani not far behind. Gray more of a team player tonight and Slimani's touch though not perfect has improved. Ulloa is done for I'm afraid. Might have been his last game for us.

The Mendy cameo was alright. He's a good quick passer and also a bit of a scrapper when they pressed late on.

An encouraging show but the most significant thing was that it was a team comprised of the post-Pearson/last summers Ranieri signings and they performed. In the wake of last seasons critics (myself included) it looks as if there's a glimmer of hope for some of them.
