The whole point its a collection of various sports and various skills. It would be boring if it was just one type of each sport.

But the Olympic motto is 'Faster, Higher, Stronger'. It's not 'Much slower, but in a different style'. Nobody runs backwards. Nobody cycles backwards. So why swim backwards?

They should have backwards running tbh, it’d be great!

 

I’d get rid of all the following from the olympics:

 

Any ‘sport’ where the participants are sitting down. If you’re sitting down it’s (a) boring and (b) barely a sport, at most.

 

Anything that has judges awarding points. If the winner isn’t clear because they’ve scored more goals or points or run or swam fastest, then bin it. Subjectivity has no place in determining sport, it isn’t the Turner or Booker prize ffs.

 

Boxing. It would be gone anyway because of judges, but punching people in the head has no place in the olympics.

So rowing and cycling aren't sports, because you have a seat?

 

I 100% agree on any sport that involves scoring, I'd get rid of them in the Winters too. Unless there's a clear winner then it's not fair.

 

The only other ones I'd seriously consider removing, is sports like football, tennis and golf. Doesn't sit right that these professional sports are at the olympics.

Tennis has 4 slams, Golf has 4 majors, Football and Rugby have World Cups.

 

They shouldn't be in the Olympics.

I find rowing really boring, so yes.

Maybe an exception could be made for cycling as you are almost standing up really and you’re using your legs to move along. But deffo get rid of anything involving a horse or a boat!

I reckon if we got rid of sports where the olympics isn’t the pinnacle, anything where judges award points, and anything with horses or boats, I’d be well back on board with the olympics!

It's an interesting debate when it comes to sports of skill rather than of strength, speed or straight-up fitness in the Olympics.

For instance, shooting and archery are tests of skill and training and are included due to tradition - why should other tests of skill, not get a look-in other than because of tradition?

Agreed about football, especially when GB can choose from 4 nations whereas they compete individually in other tournaments.

Has anyone said its about time the UK separated into the countries instead of this dodgy grouping which exists just so it can sit at the top of the medal charts even though its three or four different ountries

We rarely enter anyway, the man haven't apart from 2012. And all but 3 players in the women's squad are English. Its basically the England team. Even managed by the current England interim coach.

 

I actually don't have an issue with women's football being in the olympics, just not the mens.

I was watching the gymnastics earlier. The floor looks like a piece of piss, you just dance about a bit. The multiple somersaults would be my only downfall to be honest

Rob & Romesh did two Olympic episodes recently where they tried all different sports. 

 

When they tried the pommel horse they did exactly as above. Could barely get on the thing never mind spin around or stay on.

Yeah, agree with you. They all have their own prestigious competitions.

 

But the cycling road race ain't the Tour de France.

 

The 100m however, is the pinnacle of athletics.

 

Maybe it should just be made up of sports that we only watch every 4 years
