Suitable RPG for 10 year old

Recommended Posts

My 10 year old boy has been looking over my shoulder lately and watching me play COD/ghost Recon and it has made him all potty-mouthed at school, apparently...

So...are there any Xbox/WiiU RPG style games that you would recommend for a (fairly) bright and mature 10 year old? He has Minecraft but I'm looking for something Zelda-ish, maybe??

Cheers

Just noticed this part. lol

Is that because of the game or you shouting "****ing campers" every two minutes?

Haha - so it's not just me that does it, then?!

There is a bit of bad language on the first person story mode...got called into school and had to tell them that he must have picked up the bad words from his mother...

So I need a slightly more age-appropriate game!

Pokemon, Zelda both good shouts.

There's a Japanese series called dragon quest which is extremely family appropriate in content but can be surprisingly tricky in places.

Cool, cheers. Will check them out

Blimey. I used to play this on my Amiga - it came on about 15 floppy disks!!!

True story, I played this (and Monkey Island) on my dad's computer as a small kid not knowing a word of English. I don't think he knew what either game was about. I remember running back and forth constantly asking "Dad, dad, what does <insert English word here> mean?" I never got past the bar in LLS 1 or off the island in MI1.

But I would argue playing these games put me streets ahead of the other school kids in terms of English skills lol

Buy him a switch, get him on Mario, Zelda and Splatoon 2 (COD with paintballs).

It works really well on the handheld mode, so he can play that while you kill people on the big TV.

Actually Splatoon is a WiiU game so maybe that will do, if you don't want to splash out a few hundred on the Switch.

Cheers - Switch conversation has been had, but I'm struggling to justify the cost...especially when he has the Xbox and WiiU.

He's offfered to chuck in a hundred quid, but it's still an eye-watering amount for the console, then the new games on top.

Might have to bite the bullet at some stage, but not until there is a hefty price-drop.

Sell the WiiU. You can surprisingly fetch a decent price for it on Ebay. That and his £100 will make the purchase less of a hit on your wallet.

I got the Switch last week and its brilliant. Mario Odyssey is a beautiful game

Not gonna happen as a function of time since release, Nintendo never do that.  Your only hope on that front is a vendor holding a flash sale or picking one up off ebay.
