Football and Greggs - A Religon

Those of you, like me, who travel long distance to support Citeh may well be accustomed to the obligatory stop at Greggs on the Motorway... In my case Toddington on the M1. My son swears by the sausage and  bean pasty but I prefer the classic Sausage roll.  This is a vaguely spiritual experience for us but those geniuses at Greggs have managed to sum up the spirit of Christmas for us with the combination of the nativity and a sausage roll. Christianity and Greggs - what a wonderful combo

Greggs sorry for swapping Jesus for sausage roll in nativity scene

Greggs the bakers has apologised for swapping Jesus for a sausage roll in a promotional image for its advent calendar.

It shows a nativity scene with three wise men gathered around a pastry instead of Christ.

Christian Twitter users said the advert was disrespectful to their religion.

"I'm glad Christians kicked off and Greggs apologised," wrote one Twitter user. "No other religion would stand for that nonsense."

Other people joined in calls for organisations to "respect all faiths equally".

Greggs has apologised for the image, saying it hadn't planned to upset anyone.

"We're really sorry to have caused any offence, this was never our intention," the firm said in a statement.

The image was issued to promote a £24 advent calendar which has vouchers to spend in its stores behind each door.

The UK Evangelical Alliance tell Newsbeat it is "not too outraged" about the Greggs nativity scene, but that it does raise issues of companies using the Bible story to sell products.

"Every year some company creates a Christmas controversy for commercial gain. It seems to get earlier each year," says Daniel Webster, spokesperson for the organisation.

He says Jesus is what should be the focus of Christmas celebrations, not advent calendars and marketing to sell sausage rolls.

"That's the scandal that should be talked about this Christmas, not processed outrage to sell processed food."

Do they really need to be told that this could be considered inappropriate?

Atleast the sausage roll is a more realistic with Jesus's colour not this foooking white Jesus that keeps popping up.

I don't think he had a pasty yellow complexion either but he definitely had a long sausage.

People kick off about literally anything. If Jesus existed, as if he'd give a sh*t if a bakers portrayed him as a sausage roll in a picture. Surely people have bigger things to worry about lol

If Man City field a sausage roll instead of Jesus at the weekend we'll stick a decent chance of getting a result.

And thus, weary from their travels, the three wise men gathered around the manger. At the sight which lay before them, the first proclaimed: "what the f**k has taken this massive bite out of that sausage roll?! Bollocks am I hanging around to find out."

I suspect they knew it would cause some controversy but went ahead on the basis of it will get a lot more attention, so goodish publicity. It's  not as if it'll stop Gregg shoppers buying.

Their spokesman may have said that the company are deeply sorry for the Sausage Roll incident but I feel he's telling Porkies

Grill them and the truth will out
