TiffToff88 Posted 27 November 2017 Posted 27 November 2017 I'm starting a new job next week, and it's at a firm in Leicester City Centre. I live in syston and have never had to get to the city centre on a regular basis. I assume that it's not cheap parking every day (Nearest car park to my new job is the NCP Curve Theatre car park - £17 a day! I would imagine theres a lot of you living out of the city, working in the centre. I was just wondering what options there are for me. I live too far away from the syston train station to be able to walk it, and the car park at the station coupled with the cost of train fare is probably going to add up to quite a big chunk. Also, what are your experiences with the Birstall Park and ride? It's the only downside to working in the city centre as far as i can see.

Just do what everyone else does and stick there car down one of the side streets.
joachim1965 Posted 27 November 2017 Posted 27 November 2017 Catch the 5 bus. £4.20 day ticket, £15 weekly or £55 monthly, buses run every 10 mins through Syston.

Drive to Sileby train station, big car park that’s free next to it, runs through syston before arriving at Leicester.
Uranyl Yellow Posted 27 November 2017 Posted 27 November 2017 I use the Enderby park and ride and the service is reasonable (buses every 15 mins to about 7.00pm) - I imagine the Birstall one is very similar. The place I work for uses the car parking fees to subsidise the tickets, so I basically get to use the service for nothing, but if you have to pay I think it's £3.50 a day. Longer term tickets are available for less though.

I live in Birstall (the pride of LE4) and the park and ride buses seem regular, especially in the mornings. Think they drop off at the Haymarket bus station, can't be certain but it'd be handy if you're based that way. When I worked in town up London Road past Vicky Park the commute on public transport from Birstall - Leicester was always fairly painless.

Otherwise you're still paying tax, insurance, MOT etc. etc, while additionally paying for privilege of waiting around for buses and sitting and savoring the assorted aromas of public transport.

Strokes Posted 28 November 2017 Posted 28 November 2017 Abbey park but you can carry on all the way to blaby and where ever it goes after that. I think it must be about 4 to abbey park, it’s hard to be accurate because I always do circuits when I’m there, which skews the total distance.
joachim1965 Posted 28 November 2017 Posted 28 November 2017 Quickest way to cycle would be straight down Melton Road, not as scenic but more direct. I cycle from Barrow to Thurmaston every day , 7 miles each way and after Cossington it takes me along the towpath and through Watermead. It is a great way to get yourself awake and moving before you get to work.
