Dutch club De Graafschap are interested in signing very talented Leicester City Nigerian striker Layton Ndukwu in the January transfer window, as per reports.

According to gelderlander.nl, manager of the Eerste Divisie side Henk de Jong and technical manager Peter Hofstede spent last weekend in England to monitor Ndukwu.

Leicester City U23 were not involved in any competitive match last weekend but the teenager was in action for that age group against Tosin Kehinde's Manchester United in the Premier League 2 on Monday.

And three days ago, Ndukwu inspired Leicester City to a 7-1 thrashing of Barnsley in the Premier League Cup, scoring his side's fourth goal just before half-time.

The 19-year-old Ndukwu has caps for England at U16 and U17 level.

Retired Nigeria international Wasiu Taiwo, famous for scoring for the Super Eagles in the 1995 US Gold Cup, played for De Graafschap during the 1996-1997 season.

From running the Dutch article through Google Translate it says he's going there for "a training period" whatever that means. A trial? Real shame if we let him leave on a permanent.

Ndukwu just followed the Dutch club on Instagram an hour ago, so obviously some truth in this.

I've watched U23s a few times this season in the Checkatrade and he's clearly got something. Clearly most talented footballer in the group. Only 19 and I'd be surprised if we don't offer him a new deal and see how he develops.

Wouldn’t it make sense to send him to big Nige rather than a second division Dutch side?

Nige don't have a great record of playing the kids.

He is going on a trial there for a couple of weeks in January. Similar to what Raul Uche did at Leuven earlier in the season.

With Uche wasn't it a trial to see if they want him on loan? Is it the same in this case as I would hate to lose him as he has looked good recently. I guess the good thing about having Puel is that if a young player is good enough he will play, if he isn't then he won't. Giving me faith in whatever decision is taken with the younger players which I didn't get from Ranieri or Shakespeare (Not saying they are bad managers just when it came to youth they seemed hesitent to play them).

I'd be surprised we haven't offered him a contract. Must have a busy agent.

His contract was up last summer and we only extended it by a year which seemed odd given his supposed talents. Could come back to bite us if he decides to go elsewhere.

If we valued him I'm sure we'd get him to sign.

The reality is though he's probably not valued at the club as they suspect his potential is about League One level IMO.
