Vardy did his job, but he is looking a little bit amateur as the season goes on. Nothing wrong with that but I feel he would excel again with a break from 4/5 games a month.

He did great tonight. Probably the best player  on the pitch after Maguire.

I tend to agree, but strikers need to score goals in open play. That is what they are on the field to do. Today Vardy was fast and dangerous, he put in a great shift, really led the team up front, but he isn't producing goals for all that effort. He is struggling with his finishing, the entire team is. IDK. It is worrisome, we are getting terrific opportunities, but we are finishing direct at the keeper, often meekly, or going down in the box begging for a call. We need Vardy and Shinji to do more with their finishing, that is the bottom line.

So if you agree N'didi was, why did you suggest Vardy was only behind Maguire? Vardy did his job, but he is looking a little bit amateur as the season goes on. Nothing wrong with that but I feel he would excel again with a break from 4/5 games a month.

I said I can agree, i.e. it is debatable, not that I actually agree with you. Formulation used to show how much I disagree with Chilwell having a better game than Vardy.

Vardy is bound to start every game since Nacho still doesn't seem up to the challenge and we have 0 alternative aside from him. He did pretty well today, got the pen, scored the pen, made very good runs even if the finish wasn't always there. Don't forget he's a groin injury recently and it could hamper him.

I really can't see where you're coming from here.

It was not a perfect performance by any means, but I can't think of another PL forward who could've played the way he did today. Definitely among our better performers.

Am I the only one that can see his initial thought has gone? Vardy now needs 4 goes at goal to get one, he used to need two. Not a criticism of him, he's getting older, it's to be expected. He isn't a play every game player anymore. Nothing sinister!

It does look like we have consolidated our position after "that" year. We look like a side that genuinely belongs in the top 8 - with potential to break into the top 6. Even if we were to lose Mahrez, we are developing a squad that could stand that loss, without too much pain. (Liverpool and Arsenal seem to have done OK recently without their star players..)

Did I read during the match thread, some plonkers saying Puel’s job would be under threat if we didn’t win today?

WTF!

He’s doing an excellent job!

There was a couple presistently trolling.  They don't believe it any more than anyone else but I guess some people's lives are so empty they need to try and get noticed somehow.

Not debating any of that. I'm suggesting we don't need Vardy every game now. We have a different style, it doesn't rely on JV.

Didn't you start that thread - 'the decline of Vardy'?

You're on your own mate.

Drago / Maguire looks like a very good partnership doesn't it? I'm a huge Wes fan but he's surely got a big task getting back into the starting XI. Those two seem to have a natural understanding.

Sign him up. Really been impressed with Drago. Maguire is one of the signings of the season. Bargain. Absolute class.

I know, you're entitled to your opinion

I can sort of see where you're coming from in that he's not at his sharpshooting best, but his overall contribution was still very good, and I think it's more of a temporary form thing with regards to his finishing rather than him being over the hill - I expect him to hit a rich vein of form again soon.

No I wasn't, but as I had the benefit of uninterrupted play online, I thought I was entitled to type on a forum too?

He still got the pen and scored anyway but I can see where you're coming from. I've pretty much given up on Shinji being able to regularly score or assist. He does an excellent job as first defensive line, which is why he starts, but he fails as a striker. He particularly got on my nerves today with the unbelievable amount of times where he did just fall over his arse.

Today's finishing wasn't great and that's an understatement. Nothing wrong with the tactics but another team wouldn't have let us get away with it.

Agree the lone striker role against a bunch of bruisers is a thankless task. I can’t fault the effort and he has the nuts to take a penalty when we were missing Iborra and Fuchs as possible takers. His commitment to the club should be welcomed too. Nice one JV.

Vardy has definitely lost a half yard but he retains his cleverness as a strIker and puts defenders under enormous pressure with his work rate

when he doesn’t play it’s so clear how we miss him

Not convinced he is 100% fit at the moment

I think it's a balance thing. Give him a rest, not for him or his attitude, for his body. As much as he looks like he'd play every day, his internals will not be as keen as he might be.

Then who?

Our playing style still relies on Vardy. Just in another way. He's there to lure the defenders aways and open spaces for the others to score. Didn't you notice that Mahrez's gain of form (and goals) coincides with Vardy scoring less?

I've almost given up on him. For such a low centre of gravity, it is almost scientifically impossible to go to ground as much as he does!

Vardy is quality for us.  He plays that lone striker role so well.

N'didi was superb and if he continues to develop the way he is, we will have one hell of a player!

Maty James is getting better, very pleased for him.

Maguire was a collosus and Dragovic put in a steady showing.

They stifled Riyhad well but his class showed in the end.

Albrighton had a good second half.

Chilly was solid enough.

I also watched how well we have done recently without him. Granted, different personnel but the scoreline was as good.

Enjoying this season immensely. 5 consecutive clean sheets, pushing for European places and playing with such flair at times. I honestly believe people don't realise how good Mahrez is as he makes it look so easy. To see a Leicester player turn it on as often as he does at this level is heavenly.
