Your comment intrigued me so I looked up the pub on google and the first result I got was 'Angry gran glassed woman who asked her to wear a face mask'

Having said that I like the pub, 70s upholstery, carpet and a proper bar. Aylestone aside from Clarendon park is the best suburb within the city boundary for drinking.

Moving from Stoneygate to Sileby soon. Any decent pubs in the area?

Poor bloke.

I'd keep away from Sileby unless you have too, that place will be an island soon.

Steaming Billy is alright.

Haven't been to most of the pubs in Sileby. The Horse and Tumpet was sold to Punch by Steamin Billy, so I imagine that's bang average now.

Barrow and Mountsorrel are where the good pubs are at. Not far for you at all.

I'm going to Chettinad on London Road on Thursday. Am i better going for a few pints at the Horse or Marquis before? With it set to be a scorcher, I was edging towards the Horse as it looks like it has a big beer garden!

Not been in since it was taken over by Beautiful Pubs but the garden is gigantic. Marquis garden traps the heat in a bad way imo

Currently reading this, a few in here might like to as well. Leicester is dead isn't it? I go out once a year and its empty. For a city with two unis that is very poor.

But for this thread, how many more pubs will close?

The public gets what the public wants.

The city centre pubs are closing while a lot of village and suburban pubs keep doing better.

Yeah but that's the point why it's shit because people have stopped going out in the same way they were after COVID.

University students drinking culture is vastly reduced. Younger people don't tend to drink to the same level as before. Those who were and are drinkers tend to go local to the nearest pub after a COVID. Or others choose to eat out. There's a whole conscious around being healthy now.

The destination cities can call on tourism to lift it up and in my experiences, there are some cities which act as a hub to a population of surrounding towns (which are normally struggle).

I think Leicester lacks proper pubs but the nightlife problem is widespread across the country.

Went in Babelas before Christmas last year and thought it was pushing as good as it's ever been, three varied cask, nice staff, good crowd.

Went in on Sat, all three cask off, Guinness off. Whole bar area looked like the place was about to close down. Staff still friendly enough and I'd go back, hope it was just an off day
