I've ended up in the Ale Wagon, Salmon and Cherry Tree a lot recently. Spiritually I'm in my 70s.

I love the Cherry Tree, Bass in there is genuinely one of the best pints in Leicester.

Love the Cherry Tree…. It was recommended on here and is now a staple for lunchtime drinking…. Will be there tomorrow

So, thank you whoever mentioned it first!!!

Won't touch the Salmon now. But Ale Wagon is great, although it is shut tomorrow!

Since the bowling green has reopened its sub par in terms of beer options.

Looking for somewhere new to go pre match, nearish to Newake Street

Usually 4 for us that go, early 30's not stone island types usually looking for a couple of decent ale/lager/stout options.

Tend to avoid the overally rammed places like counting house, Soar point & now bowling green.

Any recommendations anyone?

Tonne sounds like it could be your bag. If not Riley’s is the closest to Newarke St.

Mervs is ok. Has some reasonable beers (no stout). Certainly better pre match than it looks.

Fairly crap post match though.

Them opening at 1 on a Saturday looks a tactic to avoid getting a ‘football crowd’ in.

Anyone know of anywhere decent in Nuneaton that won't be full of Neanderthals on Saturday?

I was wondering what this comment meant until I googled and saw Nuneaton are playing Coalville on Saturday LOOOOOOOOOL. The abundance of fingers and toes at the match will make up for the lack of teeth.

Went to the Dove in Evington today, food and beer really good, just shame it’s bang smack in the middle of Evington, it’s a bit of a dump around there.

Thoroughly recommend.

Quick random question for the Cherry Tree goers…

They don’t do food, but are they relaxed if you take a butty in?  I imagine they would be??

I don’t know anyone who frequents either the BD in Leicester or Sheffield. I wonder if they have had their day.

Brewdog in Leicester has had it along with two in London (Brixton and Clapham Junction) as of today

Reading the Royal Standard has had a refurb. You just know that will have been shit.

I’ve been in since and I’d say that they have actually done a good job of it, surprisingly. Layout all very similar, and much of the character has remained. Sadly, the jukebox is gone, however, songs are played loud and proud still through a new speaker system where requests can be made. Pool table has been sacrificed for an additional interactive darts board, however, the pool table could potentially still make a return I’m told. The diabolical toilets have been refurbished. All in all, done a good job I think. It still feels like a proper pub and much the same clientele are frequenting which is a sign of that. Oh, and the Leicester City 93/94 promotion car sticker has survived in the back room window 🤣
