Arguably, he might be lots of things. I’m just offering a balanced view rather than the punitive load of bitter toss posted around this thread.

But do you know if what you said was true?

Not really, your analogy wasn’t quite hopes and dreams now.

This won’t be sorted quickly. And we should perhaps hold fire with the labels and accusations until we know the full facts.

Legally though like I said in my initial post, Mahrez is up the creek.

We will never know the full facts. as supporters of LCFC (or Mahrez) we have every right to make the comments that we are. If he ends up being the saint some are arguing then we can change our tune.

Only facts I can see are he's on a good contract with LCFC, he didn't get a transfer and he hasn't turned up to practice or play since then.

Based on those facts the comments of the majority of supporters on this thread seem very fair.

Our Thai owners are not going to loose face whatever happens. Mahrez and his agent, I doubt very much, will be able to strong arm them into a place they don’t want to go. Ultimately the outlay spent on our asset is still only £400k. The increase in price since is theoretical. Mahrez has more to lose in this stare down. He can’t afford to loose 2 years of prime career.

Again you and others are making assumptions and you know what that can do.

You have no idea of whether he or the club decided that he didn't attend training.

Maximum fine is two weeks. Club can appeal to the pfa with a max on appeal of 6 weeks. Funnily enough, this was discussed when tevez went AWOL from man City...

Absolute disgrace. This sport is broken. Don't pay him until he turns up and see what happens.

I would rather he is made to honour his contract at this point. If he wants to play then he can sort his attitude out, if not he should lose his wages and start filling out Asda forms.

I think they need to tell him to get back to work or they will sue for loss... they could buy a tp player for say 100m on a four contract and then sue mahrez for his wages for two years and half the transfer fee... this would be serious money - he would have to get back to work.

However, when he gets back to work he may not be playable...  we will just have to pay him the 10m in wages over the next few years.  But any club thinking of hiring him will take note... what he is doing to lcfc he may do to his next employer.

Bloody hell someone being paid by Talksport talking sense.....It will never catch on.  Simon Jordan top man.

We won't be able to just keep not paying his wages so I think we should say to him either come back to training  now and we'll sort a transfer out for you in the summer or don't come back and we'll just keep paying your wages for the remainder of the 2 years and stop you from transferring anywhere. This is the only way I can see us taking control of the situation. As annoying as it would be for him to get paid for 2 years and not play, I don't feel we should just allow him to not play again this season and let him leave in the summer. This summer many teams will want him, I'm not sure they will in 2 years.

Legally, Mahrez doesn’t have much of a case. Morally, I’m not so sure. He was given assurances and the goalposts changed - twice. Which is arguably enough to screw with a persons mental health.

Whilst everyone is speculating I think this is the most likely scenario.

Mahrez could probably have gone in the summer if a £50m bid was made and Mahrez and his agent assumed this was still the case. My guess is his agent offered him out for £50m this window and Man City agreed to pay it. When they were told no they threw in Roberts to get the deal done but weren't willing to pay Leicester's asking price and had no intention of paying £80m. I suspect Mahrez was never a primary target but a player they liked and that's why they bid with two days to go after Sane was injured.

I may well be wrong but to me this is the likely sequence of events. Mahrez is now pissed off as he fancied himself to oust either Sane or Sterling long term and he knows Man City's transfer agenda may well be different in the summer and this was his big chance.

Not sure if Ill turn up for work tomorrow or next week - paying the bills might just push me into it though.

I'm not sure Riyad is quite as highly rated by others around Europe as he and his agent may think - despite the stats in his favour.

No denying what he has done as a member of this club.I love his confidence and attitude on the pitch but that may not fall right with the top teams who want team members over all else.

If the club had decided it they would have released a statement saying so.

So you think his agent told him he was going to be sold for £50m?

Yes

Well, he's an idiot if he believed that.

And even so, it's not our problem what his agent tells him.

It's all very well his agent taking the stick but Mahrez is still in control of his own actions. He could have sacked his agent the last time he made him look a muppet.

I agree with everything you've said.

My guess is when Roma were bidding in the summer is we told Mahrez and his agent he could leave for £50m. The misunderstanding is that Mahrez and his agent still believe that to be the case in January and his agent was touting him out for that fee.
