It's tough.  We all obviously want him to succeed and bringing through youngsters must be one of the most satisfying things a club can do.  I think we all wanted him to come in and be amazing and maybe he has fallen a bit short of that.  However, he is very quick and seems to have the physical attributes.  He also, and I think this is more important than people often mention, seems intelligent.  Interviews I have seen with him all present a very well spoken, thoughtful player seeming to say all the right things.  At 21 I would have come across as a complete spuzzwanger so he has impressed me.  I am hoping that this means he will learn and improve.  For what it's worth I think he will become a very good, Premier League quality player and I hope that is with us.  I think he deserves a decent chance (until the end of the season and maybe the start of next) to make the grade.  Good luck to him, I hope he pushes on.

Good post...!  Says it all for me

Look at boy Diabatte, same age give or take. But he’s made more of an impact in, what 3 games, than Chilwell has in 2 seasons! If you’re betting on who’ll go further, I know who my monies on!

But that wasnt the question.....nor the point of this thread...!

Hasn't progressed at all really, to be honest. I'll be amazed if he has much future in the Prem.

Just think he's far too average both going forward and defending.

Remember when FTers were saying Vardy wasn't good enough for the Championship.

They know nothing Jon snow.

I’ve heard others say Cole was world class, I never saw it and he certainly never produced any world class performances for England!

Slightly off topic I know, but Ashley Cole was the best left back in the world in his Chelsea days!

Diabate is an attacking player though and hasn't done anything of note since we beat a league 1 team.

sorry don't get the love in for Ben Chilwell.  Makes mistakes every game and for me is a poor fullback.  He was bloody awful against Watford on boxing day and every time I have seen him play since he has been shocking.

Reminds me of Ritchie De Laat maybe good going forward occasionally but his first job is to defend and at that skill he is sadly lacking.

I agree, De Laet was found out defensively in the PL but I’m damn sure going forwards he was better than Chilwell is now; there was an end product - even in the PL -albeit at the expense of goals conceded.

There are many who hold BC’s attacking prowess as some beacon of light that shines to show us the way forward with him.

I don’t buy this argument either.

How many assists does he have in the PL?

I dont know the answer to that off the top of my head, but I suspect precious few if any.

That being the case, on what grounds is this aspect of his play a postitive for the team?

He is a not a total novice either having started first team games for the last 18 months or so?

Two players who play in different positions, so not a great comparison. As a defender you require a lot more discipline compared to an attacker, hence why defenders tend to mature in their mid to late 20's. We also judge attackers by assists and goals. What stats can you use for fullbacks?

I am not a fan of Chilwell by any means but lets not go OTT with the comparisons to Diabate.

So you think Ben will be good because some said Vardy was shit a few years ago and they were wrong.

How Jamie Vardy’s footballing life has turned out is hardly a basis for claiming what a totally different person will do in their career though is it?

. It wasn’t to long ago I heard a radio Leicester caller say he could be “the next Gareth Bale”

It wasn't too long ago that I looked at the Porto away startling line up and predicted Schlupp would have his Bale V Inter moment.

People like coldplay and voted for the Nazis, you cant trust people.

Harry Kane has a minor disability but he is pretty much the best number 9 in the world at the moment.

Footballing intelligence and general intelligence are two very different things.

In my mind's eye I see a Venn diagram, two very large brown circles with a neutron of shit in the middle.

I just think it's becoming harder and harder to be a good defender in general, he doesn't quite have the level of experience yet, but I'd rather we keep the faith with him till the summer and then we can reassess.

Some people want the finished article straight away, quite frankly you're an idiot.

I honestly think at his age, if he "had something" youd be seeing it consistently and he would be holding down a regular place in the team now.

Most top youngsters burst onto the scene and make an immediate, consistent impact if they've got top talent.

Chilwell is by no means a bad player but could eventually be converted into a winger in my opinion and maybe his level has already reached the top with Leicester

We've seem him gallop down the pitch past 5 players! the only thing is he isn't great at reading the game, that comes with experience, he has the physical attributes to become a good defender, just needs time and patience from us.

OH and about his age, he's 21! he's got atleast 12 more seasons in him ffs, did mahrez play in the prem at the same age? schmeichel? morgan? etc... leave It out.

I think that you fail to understand English at times.

He's got a lot of ability and is very young. By far the best youth product leicester has produced in recent times. Consistency will come with age. I'd say he has the potential to become one of the best full backs in the game winning 50+ caps and playing consistently in the champions league.

Doesn't seem like a love in to me. Lots of opinions both positive and negative but most seem balanced.
