Since Puel's appointment we have finally got to have a reasonably long look at Chillwell in the first team.

Baring in mind that he is still 21. Put your cards on the table and say how good you think he will become and far you think he will go in the game?

Personally I don't think he has been quite as good as I was expecting. Don't get me wrong there has been a few defensive lapses but that's to be expected with any young defender. It's been his attacking play that I have been slightly underwhelmed with he's not been as explosive as he appeared in the 2nd half v athletico Madrid and sometimes he's a bit headless in possession.

That's not to say I don't think he will become a quality premier leauge operator with 8 or so England caps but I think a club like Leicester just outside the real big boys is probably his level.

PS i dont want this to become a thread slagging him as i know there has been a couple of mistakes recently. I'm intrigued to hear people thoughts on him overall.

athletic enough to be a good wing back/winger/maybe a full back but doesn't seem to have the brain to defend at all. switches off a lot, caught in the wrong positions a lot, losing his man every time the opposition attack.

hopefully that comes with time but not sure how much of "natural instinct" you can teach for him to become a good defender.

As far away as possible.

So far has proven to be a liability. Clearly he must have started out as a winger and the club are trying to turn him into a defender. Not sure he has the mental ability or discipline to succeed in this position. Maybe midfielder is a better option.

To be honest I'm less convinced by how far Chilwell will go now than I was a year ago. He's had a lot of games this season and has often been at fault. I know he's only a youngster but he doesn't really seem to learn. It's a shame as he is quite a talent and has enough of that to probably forge a career at PL level, but I'd be surprised if he ever plays for England.

Chilwell and Gray are two good tests of Puel's coaching in my eyes. He's been given credit by some real quality players so hopefully he can take their raw ability and make them into something special, but I've got to admit I've less faith in both than I had a year ago, and the signing of Diabate has been quite an eye opener.

I think he'll play for England's purely based on the fact that it's difficult to produce good full backs constantly - he'll get about 8/9 caps I imagine.

I'd be inclined to push him forward more and give him an industrial/old fashioned type winger role. He's an okay wing back as well. Out and out LB I'm not convinced he's got the mentality to defend well consistently.

Strangely left back is the one position England seem to get right regularly. Cole was world class, Baines was good, and Rose is decent as well.

Chilwell reminds me a bit of Schlupp to be honest.

a left footed player myself, I have mahrez and Ben chilwell as favorites. I was following him since last year and saw in him a Marcelo in the making, but starting in many matches, with different strateg and with different managers, chilwell was learning the hardest way. but dome tactical znd positional mistakes and errors, seemed to put pressure on his development. I gave faith on puel to let him develop znd fill his emptied progress spaces. ( may be a loan to an itslian club ( fiorentina or sampdoria ) will do great help

Fans are so fickle. A run of form that’s not so good, albeit for about a few months, and people are saying he’s not going to make it despite showing already that he’s a capable PL left back at the age of twenty one and it’s his first season playing first team football regularly. It wasn’t to long ago I heard a radio Leicester caller say he could be “the next Gareth Bale”

I've seen people on here raving about Musa. Not really any proof of anything. Most of it's the usual overreaction.

Probably end up around the lesser known East mids clubs like Derby or Forest... so approximately 30 miles. Shocking player

Full backs are often seen as easy positions to fill and therefore players often are not highly regarded.

This opinion is wrong, full backs good ones at least, are intelligent skilled players and at 21 years old are a LONG way from developing and understanding all that is required. I would wager that Chillwell is a better full back at 21,than Fuchs was.

The lad has a very bright future if given the time and training required, if supported and assisted I expect him to be a regular international.

He pisses me off too much, probably could come good but I’d bet he won’t get the chance to if he keeps going on as he is.

Excellent player when we're on the front foot, not so good when we're having to soak up pressure- the defensive side usually improves with experience, so we've got to give him time.

Hopefully Puel can continue to develop our style until we're dominating most games, which will suit him.

I'm going to be the first one to give him 50+ England caps. I think his potential is as good as anyone I have seen come through the city ranks.

He will learn a lot from this season and from Fuchs and next season we will see a top player beginning to shape.

I’ve heard others say Cole was world class, I never saw it and he certainly never produced any world class performances for England!
