Managers have a style and a game plan - fair enough but why try and play that way without the personnel to do so: Albrighton as a wing back, Silva as practically a number 10 and Chilwell as a winger without a transfer window which solves it. Square pegs, round holes and every time the team sheet comes out an hour before the game I despair.

 

His post match interview said it all sadly in that he changed the formation and he wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do.

 

And don’t get me started on his substitutions.

Was pretty painful to watch for the most part but we battered them for the last 20 mins and deserved the equaliser. And it wasn't Puel's fault that Albrighton gave a stupid penalty away either.

The other 70 minutes we looked bereft of confidence and lost. Players trying to do jobs that they simply are average at and getting stripped of the ball because of the positions on the pitch they were situated.

We have looked very close to being a good side, but it is mainly not taking chances and stupid mistakes.

 

We create enough chances and control the ball, we just make stupid mistakes. It should have been 9 points from the last 3 home games not 3, it’s not the plan that was the problem it was the execution.

We look so one-dimensional, we've become a rather boring team to watch.

 

We also tend to sleep for the duration of one entire half before waking up, usually during the first 45 minutes.

 

Our game plan is uninspiring and Puel's tactics, formation and substitutions questionable. Sure, Albrighton caused the penalty on the weekend, but who put him there at RB/RWB in the first place??? Then a five-man midfield against a team that doesn't really have a great midfield, either. Similar problems in the home game against bloody Stoke City... Sometimes, I despair, the lack of creativity and lack of urgency is so obvious.

 

With Chelsea and Arsenal somehow not wanting to give a rat's ass about 5th/6th spot and Burnley being so erratic, this would be the perfect time and season to aim a bit higher. Yet we usually come across as a very limited and timid outfit. There's so much more potential, talent and creativity in this squad, but Puel seems to want to keep a tight leash on everything, sacrificing spectacle for solidity or whatever you want to call it.

 

Puel also has the knack for not answering post-match questions about his decisions directly, usually by pretending to not have understood the question correctly. Every time I hear Claude on air, he comes across as if he wants to shy away from the responsibility and talk about something else instead, in his muted way.

Albrighton had a mare against Bournemouth but I'm less enclined to fault him (even if his challenge was absolutely needless) than the manager. After Amartey's injury, he made two mistakes: bringing on Chilwell and abovee everything switching to a back three which hurt us immensely. We lost complete control of the game and Albrighton was clearly uncomfortable in this new role. If it wasn't Bournemouth we should've been 3 down at half time the game definitely over. He corrected at half time but the damage was already done.

 

Note that I don't belong to the Puel haters and/or the entitled couch experts fans who want to sack a manager every 5 months. I think he could do well here and needs his transfer window as well as a proper pre-season.

They and Beaglehole deserve great credit for the way they approached the game.
