Love Simpson for what he has done here and think he is a genuinely top class defender and I think Chilwell has massive potential but with two genuinely attacking fullbacks I really think we would have won today and in general be much, much better.  You only need to look at Man City to see how important good fullbacks are.  I really think with the exact same team we had today but with two quality fullbacks we'd be a force to be reckoned with.  As I said, I love Simpson but think maybe we need an upgrade.  Chilwell has the potential, he gets into great positions but his decision making is not always right and he seems hesitant to cross.  He is still very young and I would be more than comfortable having him learn his trade and showing him patience.  I think he can make the grade if fans are reasonable with their expectations (which unfortunately many are not) and I don't mind him making some mistakes if at least we see progress.  Obviously patience cannot be infinite but he is way off the point of being able to be written off.

Lots of doom and gloom on here today but with two attacking fullbacks we really would stretch teams.  It would then free up the other players and give them more space too.  Mahrez was not great today but we expect so much of him it is not always reasonable to think he will always deliver, especially when he is so heavily marked.

I don't think we are as far off as some people think but what we do need is time and patience and I just hope some of the more spaffwangerry fans amongst us don't ruin it.

We are heading in the right direction.

Simpson's dogshit but I think Chilwell is alright. His crossing is hit or miss, but I find the crosses are improving.

Do not buy Luke Shaw. 3 managers have critisized his attitude and he looks like he lives off kebabs

??? improving really!! I would say getting worse just like is all round game has got has the season has gone on his positioning is awful aswell fuchs the better player by a mile

Red setter has pace, but I wouldn’t play it at left back. Mind you it would probably make better decisions and they are as mad as Fock

hes also young, people are forgetting that in a few seasons he'll be a different player.

I can't remember ever having watched him play but Jonas Knudsen Ipswich is a Denmark international and seems capable going forwards, anyone know if he's any good?

Not good enough.

Seriously, if you're not first choice full back for the Danish national team, you're not Premier League material. Left back has been an achilles heel for them for aaaages

It’s not so much the attack I’m bothered about, it’s Chilwell defending and general decision making. He could have stopped both goals today if he was just a bit smarter and you just can’t teach that.

Argree and puel needs to see this quick he is costing us goals every week and puel is the only one who cant see it

Tbh I think it’s more about options, Puel has very little choice as we are hardly blessed with able back ups to chose from. It can and will have to wait until the summer.

You are Danish aren't you? (Or is it Belgian, or were just born there?)

Name me three fullbacks in the Premier League who are 21 or younger and better than Chilwell?  Obviously that does not prove he will make the grade but it proves he maybe at least needs a wee bit of time before being completely written off.  Heavens.  X

Both full backs played well imho

Defensively I thought Simpson was one of our best players.

But you can't really argue that he's not absolutely dog on the ball.

Whether or not there are three full backs under twenty one in the league who are better than Chillwell (I'm too tired to even think of any at the moment tbh) doesn't make Chillwell good enough, it just makes the standard poor.

He's not good enough for the Premier League, simple as that.

Philipp Max has loads of assists, great at set pieces and doesn't get skinned too often - there's plenty of suitors but gerrimin

Kenedy from Chelsea seems to be doing very well at Newcstle and provides a lot of attacking threat. Could see him fitting in really well here and being quite cheap.

Compared to the crosses when he first started playing, yes.

Fuchs may be better at crossing but he is too slow and makes just as many defensive mistakes.

Thought defensively Simpson was very good and has been for ages.

he kept finding loads of space but his crossing and passing just left me speechless. This guy is a premier league footballer with title win under his belt. Some of the worst ball playing I’ve ever seen.

Luke Shaw can get in the fookin bin.

Does anyone rate that Spanish attacking FB at Liverpool who’s been dropped in favour of Robertson. Defensively a bit frail perhaps?

I'll wager £100 he won't be playing in league two.

The annoying thing is that they get in such good positions and get fed such good balls, it got to the point where I questioned why Simpson even tries to cross it when his previous seventeen attempts have not come off. Stay on the training ground and work on it, I'm not asking you to be Beckham just be able to lift the ball off the ground when necessary and put it past the first defender. Chilwell seems to have a reluctance to cross unless everything is set up perfectly in front of him with time and space to pick someone out - maybe the attitude Simpson should have. We play with two wingers and two centre halves so the full backs first role is to defend solidly, it's just so frustrating that they do get up there into good positions, so it's not about not joining in or having the engine to get up and down, it's about how little comes of it and how many attacks break down due to it.

I get your point, but the issue is deeper than not being able to cross, we have nobody to cross to, Vardy is ok in the air, badly missed a free header yesterday, Nacho is quite tall but doesn't seem to get in to position and attack the ball and Shinji will fight for everything but lacks height, Iborra and Ndidi aren't getting in the box to support the attacks enough. So yesterday we had space behind the wing backs down the flanks but we were sticking in crosses to Vardy against 3 tall centre backs. Chilwell is doing the right thing in waiting and trying to pick someone out, like he did for Nacho against West Brom, because we aren't going to win 50/50s in the air. Our goal came from playing it in low and hard and that should be what we are telling Chilwell and Simpson, drive it in low and hard, Vardy is fast and will feed off scraps,  ricochets could drop to Nacho or midfielder on the edge of the box. We could have the best crossing full backs in the league but with nobody to aim for it is pointless.

Chilwell finds himself in decent positions, but there’s no final ball, there’s always too many touches and a backwards pass to take the sting out of the attack and there’s literally zero aggression when going in to win the ball.

As for Simpson, he must SURELY want to practice his crossing in training?  He couldn’t cross the ****ing road.
