Not just a question of full backs though. We're limited to crosses because we don't write have enough through the middle to pick our way through a defence intricately. That's something we need to look at. Get two decent full backs that can overlap then get mahrez/debate/Gray/new wingers and attacking midfielders that can tuck in and play their way through in the way man City and Chelsea do. Lofty ambitions required.

luke shaw is no better, literally a slightly better chilwell.

Every other left back on earth is better than Chilwell. He has nothing that I can think of

He has pace and gets into the good positions, just a shame he can't cross yet or make his mind up.

Most teams final piece of the puzzle are fullbacks, one that can defend and attack well in equal measure are so hard to come by. Hence why Man City paid £130m for 3 fullbacks... it isn't that bad as we think at Leicester.

If you look you’ll find numerous threads on QPR and Newcastle forums slagging Danny Simpson for not being a wing back. I accept the fact that’s not what he is, as a good old fashioned right back he can’t be faulted.

If Claude wants wing backs he needs to go shopping in the summer.

Deliveries aside I thought both full backs were good today. Doesn't help when there's no target man either. Sides let us whip balls in at the expense of playing through the middle every week now.

Both full backs played well imho

They played within their intrinsic abilities. Simpson defends very well well but is absolutely shit forward. It was almost heartbreaking to see him try to see him try to go with the ball forward and cross as instructed. It was like sending a soldier on a suicide mission knowing that he hasn't the the requirements to accomplish it, he knows it, you know it but you don't have anyone else.

Chilwell whilst undoubtedly bringing something forward, is still too nice as a defender. I thinks he's progressing, his decision making was better today even if his crossing is lacking. But it is still not enough against a team like Chelsea.

We definetely need the FBs positions covered for the next season if we want Puel's system to have any success.

Red setter has pace, but I wouldn’t play it at left back. Mind you it would probably make better decisions and they are as mad as Fock

Betrand if Southampton go down for LB and Sam Byram for RB.

Does Cresswell start now Evra's at West Ham? Should have gone if for him when we were promoted instead having Konchesky start in the top division.

The couple of times chilwell and Simpson whipped a ball in early we created half chances and that's the key getting the ball in quickly and taking defenders by surpise before they can set themselves.

Its just a shame that chilwell in particular was so reluctant to cross the ball for the majority of the game. If Fuchs was on and had the time and space he was given today we would've had no end of dangerous crosses going into their box.

I don't think its a coincidence we scored from one of the very few crosses from the byline. Chilwell's only good cross all game came as he went to the byline, likewise Albrighton when he went with his left leg instead. Apart from the first chance, the less said about Simpson the better. Chelsea did their homework and we rarely threatened as a result. Disappointing.

It’s not so much the attack I’m bothered about, it’s Chilwell defending and general decision making. He could have stopped both goals today if he was just a bit smarter and you just can’t teach that.

He doesn't even play for Southampton? Not good enough anyway.

Not convinced by Luke Shaw at all, as someone else pointed out above is he actually much better than Chilwell? Questionable attitude and waistline, recon I would rather us sign some exotic type that ultimately turns out to be crap than him.

I didn't say he did? It's all semantics anyway even though what I said isn't wrong.

Thought Chilwell grew into the game 2nd half, some promising overlapping and foraging runs and yes the end product was sometimes disappointing but we also owe Chelsea some credit, their defence was solid today!

I personally think Chilwell will get better, I'm more concerned about the right side!

Shaw has 3 assist in 106 career games, I'm no fan of Chilwell but he has 1 assist in 40 odd games so it's not much of an improvement. Try for Cresswell.

I can't remember ever having watched him play but Jonas Knudsen Ipswich is a Denmark international and seems capable going forwards, anyone know if he's any good?

God no.

You'd seriously turn Moses off? Did we become Barcelona over night?

He's a good wing-back and we already have a good right-sided wing-back in Albrighton. Moses isn't good enough defensively for an out and out right-back.
