Lot of work involved in bringing him back to the point where he was before the leg break. But it's not impossible.

Loaning him out first (with an option to buy), stick him in the team for a summer pre-season fitness regime, see what happens in test matches.

Matteo Darmian's also not getting a lot of match practice, wonder what Mourinho has against full-backs.

Augsburg's Philipp Max is somebody I'd look at also. And will Alberto Moreno want to stay at Liverpool?

Nah just buy some French Ligue 2 left back for a packet of Cheese and Onion crisps and £15 who turns out to be a world beater, like normal.

Besides, would you want a team full of foreigners?

Interesting point about the bullying.

Probably one of the biggest bullies ever was Brian Clough and he's still lauded as one of the all time greats.

But times have changed and 40 years ago it may have worked - but not now. Joey Barton was having a row with Alan Brazil about this yesterday and saying that today's pampered and sensitive players just don't respond to it any more.

Football is one of the few, if not only walk of life where this behaviour from a manager towards a member of staff could be viewed in any way a positive.

He pretty much has bullied Luke Shaw into a position of zero confidence, zero positive relationship, and zero willingness to work though any issues.

Youd think Mourinho was better than this, but he has gone from being the cheeky, charismatic manager of Porto and Chelsea spell 1, to the constantly bickering, petty, argumentative manager we now see in Chelsea spell 2 and Man Utd.

Hes losing the plot, and other managers are taking his crown as special.

That said, I personally wouldn't sign a player that has had a huge injury, and that doesn't seem to want to prove a point.

No thanks. Fat. Can’t stay fit, on silly money.

Avoid.

Normally when Mourinho doesn't rate or falls out with a player he doesn't pick them yet he keeps giving Shaw chances. Its like he's doing it to get a reaction from Shaw but it hasn't worked yet.

I’ve always been fascinated by the ‘bullying’ manager. Some are just bullies, are not liked and either lose their jobs or their employees are constantly at odds with them.

But others are revered.... For as many players that Brian Clough forced out or trod upon, there were those that loved the man. Some of them played for him at different clubs.

Same with Ferguson. Rio Ferdinand don’t take much shite does he. He’s pretty straight talking. But I have never heard him mutter anything other than admiration for Sir Alex. ‘The gaffer’ nonetheless.

Through the dominant, arrogant, self believing persona comes something. I guess it’s called ‘Charisma’ that makes you want to perform for people like this and to give them your all. Deep down, you know they are bastards. But you don’t care because they inspire something in you.

I can only assume that Mourinho must have very quickly seen something in Luke Shaw that turned him off. Maybe he didn’t try hard enough. Maybe he spoke out of turn. Something.....

And once that sort of manager develops that sort of view about a person, they don’t change it. The person will be firmly in the ‘out’ camp. In fact, I’m surprised Jose has given Shaw as many chances as he has.

Turn that on its head and consider what Mourinho is doing for Ashley Young’s career! Young must bloody love him..

Of course, closer to home this was exactly what Nigel Pearson was like! He had his favourites. Imagine being Matt Mills, trying to play for Pearson. I didn’t like Mills, but Pearson gave him no chance.

lol

The difference is that Ferguson and Pearson never hung players out to dry publicly.  Everything was always said privately.  I think this breeds respect, when the players see the sh*t that the manager takes on their behalf and how he defends them, even if they've played poorly.

With Mourinho, you can't help feel that he uses players as scapegoats to maintain and promote his reputation, at the expense of the player's reputation.  Last season, he questioned Jones and Smalling's bravery.  This season, he destroys Shaw's reputation.  If the players are not good enough, sell them, let them play football and try and rebuild their careers.  Don't use them to either a) make excuses for poor performances when you've picked them or b) use them to try and make a point to the board that you need more money.

For the right price and wages I'd say it was worth a shot. He clearly has talent, he needs to get fit and stay fit. When Zaha left United people said his career was effectively over and he has reinvigorated his career. I won't be so quick to right him off.

As for a right back, Darmain anyone?

His last three managers, Poch, LVG & JM  have criticized his fitness & work ethic. A common thread maybe !

We have a tendency to judge players by their transfer fee & the club that they play for. He was over rated by Man U when they paid big money to Southampton for him & I agree that the horrific leg break has not helped him but he is a project for any club that takes him on.

He has, or at least did have all the attributes to be a cracking player, but whenever I have seen him play he doesn't look particularly fit and is lacking any sort of confidence at the moment.

Listening to the Monday Night Club on BBC last night they had a guy on who I think was the ex Academy Director at Southampton, one of the things he was saying is that because he was so good when he was younger he never really had to learn to defend properly as his pace would always bail him out, and that when he first came into the Southampton first team this was still the case. However now that he can't rely on his pace to cover poor positioning/reading of the game he is being found out a bit. The guy basically backed up to a point what Mourinho has been saying, it's just so strange that he has felt the need to continuously hammer the guy in public.

It wouldn't be the first time Mourinho was wrong about a player, De Bruyne, Salah etc, if it was purely a footballing decision then I'd be inclined to take a punt on him as I think the talent is there, but when you factor in the transfer fee that they'll demand plus his wages I think this is almost definitely a no go for us, even if he takes a 50,000 pay cut he'll still be on par with our highest earners and I'm not sure he's worth it.

He's a superb left back. No denying that.

Clearly got an attitude problem of sorts but Puel squeezed the best out of Ben Arfa so who knows.

I would take him for the right price and on the right contract, unfortunately what I would consider right is far from what United and Shaw would consider right.

I think Mourinho has been nothing short of a complete disgrace and I wish the press would have the balls to stand up to a man like him in the same way they would if it was someone like Pearson. He needs calling out for digging out England's best left back in a World Cup year. Shaw's confidence must be zero.

I think he'll end up battering the Special One to death with a football boot resulting in a stint in Belmarsh Maximum Security Prison and ending his professional football career.

Close the thread!

When fit With his head in the right place he's a very good left full back who can actually both attack and defend.

Hes neither at the moment though, injury messed him up big time in his defence.
