Well as unpopular opinions go, i'm looking forward to the World Cup. Lets beat them pesky Germans and do a repeat of 1966 since that was before i was born.

(Just teasing about the pesky part ZeGuy)

Germany-England games were always worth to watch and I'm far from taking a win for granted. We have our own problems and I frankly don't see us win it this time. We're a bit lightweight forward, Neuer was injured for a very long time and the defense is not as solid as in 2014.

I was impressed with Spain, am curious about how it will go Brazil although Neymar isn't there. I personally think it could be Argentina's year.

My money (all £2.00) will be on France.

Nah. They have an incredible team on paper but their manager can't get it to click. Recurring problem and I don't think they'll win anything with him.

I'm not overly confident of England's chances of doing anything significant, but I'm looking forward to the World Cup. Everyone will get swept up with it and enjoy it- barbecues, beers, sun, house parties, etc.

Until England ruin everyone's fun, again.

We can debate the forward positions, i dont think this is a problem with or without Vardy.

Its the complete lack of quality central midfield options thats the worry. Alli is a good player but in very poor form, Henderson is essentially a hard working donkey. I love Wilshere but he could never play 5 games in two weeks (maybe im being a tad optimistic as to how far we will go) and after that, youre down to absolute dross like Livermore. Still not convinced by Dier either.

And im not convinced by Pickford, if hes our starting keeper. Watched him a lot this season and he doesnt seem brave or commanding to me. He comes for crosses and free kicks and doesnt get near them. He makes good saves but i am not convinced at all about his ability to organise a defence, communicate or come for the ball.

That's only a worry if we play through the middle, I would say our attacking strengths are probably our fullbacks and wide forwards, so I was encouraged by Southgate playing 3 at the back with wing backs, but then baffled by one of our best attacking threats, Kyle Walker, playing as a centre back.

We don't have the players to control the midfield and pass our way forwards, so play to our strengths and use our pace out wide to get forwards and flood the box. 343 is probably our best formation. Henderson and Dier can probably just about do a job of breaking up play and passing it wide and just sit and cover the centre backs when they get forwards. It is worrying that our centre backs are more of a creative and attacking threat then our midfielders, but you have to make the most of what you have.

I think youre right, weve got lots of talent in terms of direct, pacey, running style players and I think rashford and sterling will be key players for us, but we are very short on craft.

The walker at centre back option made no sense to me. I think hes considerably better than Trippier like for like, and at centre back we do have decent options. So to limit one of our main attacking outlets was very strange

When England play three at back we just dick about playing sideways cos there is a man spare.Friday was a good example .Won but playing Netherlands 2 and some very dodgy

stuff at the back.Wing backs are there but not  getting ball at the top of the attack.

I look forward to it but fear the worst.

I honestly think Gareth is getting to the point where he deserves some credit.

Leaving Dele on the bench twice, acknowledges his lack of form

He’s also given more new players caps than anyone I can remember in recent times.

And we actually looked good on Friday.

We we shall see! But I think he’s had a decent start.

Southgate will do what all england managers do - he will take injured players (wiltshire, Kane) and not take players in form. Atm pope at burnley is the best inform keeper but you know hart will start the first game.

I hope this post comes back to haunt you. Nothing like slagging someone off before the fact.

And it's Wilshere.

I’d usually agree but there’s no evidence of that or basis for that opinion at the minute.

I like wilshere and hope he has a great tournament. I was just giving an example like what happened at euro 2016 when wilshere was picked ahead of drinkwater after we'd won the League. I didn't mean to single wilshere out it was just an easy example to use.

I know. Judge him when he does what you fear, rather than condemn him before he does it.

No we didn't, Holland looked bad.

Just got torn to shreds by Lee Dixon lol

Wonder how many goals he has for England? You sometimes wonder if they've even played football before.

Vardy was on the shoulder of the last defender constantly. He doesn't need to create space, as they were moaning about, you play the ball into the space ten yards ahead and it becomes his.

Ok......this may surprise you but I do want us to do well at the world cup but after seeing us fail so many times I like many others don't have high expectations. Why would I fear him doing well? I want him and the team to do well.

Go back and read your original post - that is what I am responding to.You're slagging Southgate off for what you assume he will do before he's done it.
