Are we the only nation that thinks like this? Genuinely don't know if it's a football problem or just England.

Most teams go to competitions knowing they can't win but that doesn't stop them supporting and enjoying it.

Is it just me or does anyone else  get impression that ali just doesn't want to try playing with Vardy,  seems he doesn't want to be disloyal to Kane, i gave up watching in the end cause ali was never even going to bother trying to get vardy in the game, you could see Vardy was looking to get into positions or move into space to receive the ball but ali just held up the ball and kept losing it.

I noticed this. Alli has a reputation for still being a petulant child. I think he showed it tonight.

I would say that he probably could, but only through the middle. But we all know that if anyone is going to play there, it will be Kane with Vardy as back-up.

But even then, I'm unsure on where Vardy sits in the pecking order. I think Southgate has a preference for younger players that play for the top PL 6 teams.

Thought it a few times while I watched on. Alli made a lot of poor decisions with the ball. Showed his limitations again for me.

Vardy will get the flack but he made the runs.

Win's a win but I saw nothing that convinced me we're not heading for another crap tournament. I think Southgate will waltz into all the same mistakes every other England manager makes.

Me included probably…. I just genuinely can’t get myself too excited…. Which is a shame really…

Some Napoli fans (most did) never forgave Maradona for Argentina beating Italy in 1990

i feel genuinely ambivalent compared to supporting City…. It’s down to any number of factors…

The general detachment of the team

The sustained lack of performance/ passion

The EDL ellemant amongst the fans

if I had the choice between City winning the champs league and England winning the World Cup, it’d be a really easy choice

That's probably largely part of it, the rest being that Alli is the most overrated player in the squad. That's not to say he couldn't end up being world class he's only 21 but it's typical England hyping up a young player way too much and way over his current ability. Reminds me a bit of Gray, reputation for being a petulant child like Moseeds said above. Raw talent is there but that's no guarantee of becoming a top player.  The attitude has to be right too.

Vardy played 25 minutes and didn't touch the ball once lol

What's he supposed to do though go and play in the middle of the pitch or centre back to get on the ball?  His positioning and runs were fine it's just that nobody passed to him.

I think there are to types of persons in the England squad. There's the young new generation who were in the youth squads for their teams and England (some seem to feel they are entitled to be in the squad) and others like Vardy and Maguire who have be chosen because of their shear hard work, young versus older mentality

Worst England XI in my lifetime and I’m old enough to remember Carlton Palmer and Andy Sinton.

Friendly or not we’re 3 months away from a World Cup. Wasted opportunity to try out some viable partnerships rather than pissing about with Walker at centre back.

I totally agree, I think that Pope needed to or needs to be tried out in one of these friendlies, I think he has the best English record this season in lease goals conceded but I could be wrong.

Just said the same thing on another thread.

Alli is also the sort of petulent little bell end that wouldn't pass to a team mate because he doesn't like them. I saw him a few times look up see Vardy then just slow it down and pass it backwards to one of his mates.

That's the sort of shit that players need to put out of their tiny little jealous minds when playing for their country and if they can't then they can fvck off...

Having said that Vardy doesn't go looking for the ball enough, it is not something he does for us and some times he should because he is actually a decent footballer not just a speed merchant finisher. When he has dropped deeper I've seen him win/collect the ball play a neat pass, then turn and is able to find space as the defenders aren't sure whether to follow him, follow the ball, keep their shape etc. Vardy is a little too one dimensional at times, it's just a good job he is so good at it.

The problem is that the PL is so tribal and the fans and the players get so caught up on club rivalries they just can't get past it at international level. Whether it is cheering on mercenary players that have left your club for another in search of big money; Sterling, Walker, Lallana or just a diving little shit rag that has cheated your team out of points; Sterling, Alli, Welbeck, or a player that has tormented your team and laughed in your face while doing it; Vardy, or they just come across as a selfish, entitled tw@ everytime they open their mouths showing a complete lack of self awareness/humility/personality.

Half the England team probably don't like or respect each other, most of the fans will have had a reason to hate most of the players, the tabloids and click bait machines can't wait to destroy any England footballer. It all leads to a massive disconnect which you don't get at club level because they are family and you defend them to the hilt and any opposition player is the enemy. It is hard to switch that off when it comes to England. Even Harry Kane, who actually comes across as a decent bloke, he always gives his all and deserves his place. I just hate him because of the amount of goals he has stuck past us, the gormless mouth breathing cvnt!

That's the problem, gone are the days of players like Gerrard and Beckham, who would destroy your team one day but held that respect amongst fans and players that you could cheer them on the following week playing for England without feeling conflicted. Even John Terry, he was a complete arse, but when he played for England you felt he was giving it everything.

I really want to enjoy the world cup, but it's in Russia, we have an uninspiring, team, manager, kit, style and large bunch of nobheads in the fan base. We will play functional football but come unstuck against any team with a bit of passion and desire because we have none and no personalities in the dressing room to sort it out. No leaders, nobody to take the game and their teammates to the next level, and no fancy foreign players to take the burden like so many do at club level.

I'm a very optimistic person, but I'm struggling to see anything to get excited about.

I find a lot of you very pessimistic. You have very good chances to make it through the group phase right behind Belgium. Then as far as I know you'll meet the first of the group H which will very likely be Columbia who aren't an unbeatable team.

It will be hard for you beat us in the quarter though, if we make it that far. Still a very entertaining game for sure and I'm looking for it.

Well as unpopular opinions go, i'm looking forward to the World Cup. Lets beat them pesky Germans and do a repeat of 1966 since that was before i was born.

(Just teasing about the pesky part ZeGuy)
