Just completed my third room,  I have a pretty mixed poorish record so far-  escaped one with 12 minutes to spare,  escape another after being kindly given extra seven minutes and got locked in one last Saturday.   For those who have not heard of it before,  escape rooms is a concept that originated in Japan but has since carried over to here.   You will get locked in a room with your teammates and the goal of the game is to work with your teammates to solve numerous clues to escape the room within a hour limit.   All rooms will have their own theme and storyline,  clues can be surprisingly creative.  For an example,  last Saturday my team were split up in two and locked in two cages at the start-  it turned out that we have to work together to light up ten bottles in correct order by figuring where to stand in our respective cages.

Any other addicts out there with their own escape room recommendations?

Sounds interesting. Where do you go to do this? Are there places across the UK that run it? :dunno:

I try to do them in every city I visit, very enjoyable. I did 1 in Amsterdam a few years back where you're trapped in a little girls nightmare and you have to wake her up. I made the mistake of doing it whilst very high and it was like a Tim Burton movie on acid

So if you don't escape you get locked in? for how long?

It sounds a bit like a mix of murder mystery and the crystal maze for people with an IQ and a personality.

I've tried 3 escape rooms (in different cities) and failed every time. Once it was a poorly designed game with clues that required very 'British' knowledge to solve, myself and my teammate not being British it was impossible. The other two times, I've been tripped up on bits requiring considerable hunting on massive walls with a tiny UV flashlight wasting 15+ mins. Only having done the rooms as part of a 2 person team doesn't help either, I'm sure.

For about five seconds, and then the guy who runs it comes to unlock the door for you with commiserations and a comment at how close you were to escaping (even if you weren't)

I'm going to one of the best rooms in the world in Memphis next week, looking forward to it.

Your idea of the best room is anywhere you're locked in with 4 naked men.

Most of cities usually have 2-4 venues with 2-3 rooms per venue so there are usually a good range of choice.  I cannot advise much on ones in Leicester as I do not live there anymore but there is a poster who posted about that couple of posts down.   They are usually at top of  'things to do'  section in Tripadvisor which shows how fun they are or you can just google escape rooms in Leicester etc.

What is it called?   Might have to google it.   I have heard of a room where there is a zombie in middle with a chain that get bit longer every five minutes.  If you get touched by the zombie then you are out!

Yeah,  I would advise having minimum of 4 players.   There are rooms that can do 6-8 players but I can imagine that it would get bit overcrowded.

I will find out, it's a team building event hosted by my colleagues at work.

Breakout Games, it's the largest escape experience in the world

I’ve done one in Manchester and enjoyed it but failed. I got really close to the end but I was confused by pictures of suspects and tried to solve the crime rather than getting out.

As a raffle prize for my fundraising Escape Leicester have donated a free game for 5 people which is pretty decent of them.

Been wanting to do this for a while with mates at work but can never find the right time to go when we're all free. Really want to do one though!

I did one in Bratislava which was Cold War/spy themed, was pretty cool and we just about escaped, our mates in the other room didn't though! We did one in Budapest which was pharaoh based, wasn't as good but still a lot of fun. Also did one where I live in Essex which was decent, they're all a good laugh and a decent thing to do. I boast a 100% record thus far so we'll see if I end up in any this summer.

Would definitely recommend the one in Coventry, its a prison escape its really good they have that and a casino heist one. Escaped the prison one with 2 minutes to spare. Think it is about £18 per person

I've done a few. Most recently one in South London called "Hollow Hotel." It was part escape room, part immersive horror experience.

It was an interesting premise. The actors were clearly invested, and the "hotel" set was pretty good, but there was no narrative and felt like we were being rushed through. My other half got "killed" early on and spent 45-odd minutes sat in a room with another person doing nothing.

Good idea, poor execution. Pants.

Highly recommend Escapologic in Nottingham (recently opened a branch in Leics too but not tried those yet). Crypt-ic in particular was very good - set in an old crypt and all you start with is an old oil burner type lantern and a note book from the adventurer who has gone missing in there previously. Very atmospheric and great for team work as you need to share the only light source.
