That doesn't prevent me from cheering for the team that I have down as WC champions in the pre-tournament prediction thread.

Go and see for yourself.

A competition where you win jack shit for,I got France in one with some mates,I can’t wait for them to get stuffed, but not by those frauds!

can finally end the messi ronaldo debate on the plus side, 40 minutes when your team needs a hero and messi wasn’t even on me tele until after they’d scored. hiding. probably still take all the plaudits and then blame everyone else when they lose next round.

lol Ronaldo gets carried more than any top 10 player and you have the face to say this lol Might as well call Eder or bale if you are talking about how's clutch

Not really surprising that the thick ones on the panel are the ones that think that’s a penalty.

Gary has even read the rules out saying it has to be intentional, and they still dig their heels in lol

Still better than Argentina, argentina struggled against Iceland, lucky today and got thrashed by Croatia

Yeah, but he said battered. I think France will win, they look a much more solid team, but they won't batter them.

Wow, all this hate for Argentina! lol

If it hadn't been for that dodgy penalty for Nigeria, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

English fans cheering on for the French now - oh, how the times have changed.:crylaugh:

Be happy about the fact that we've got Ndidi and Iheanacho back early and that Musa will be snapped up for £50m by Real Madrid this summer.

Feel for our lads but France v Argentina is a far better watch on a Saturday afternoon than Nigeria.

Not a foregone conclusion either, France have been awful so far.

I for one am happy Argentina are through.

Huge nation, the game v France will be a belter and i want Messi in the tournament.

Felt Mascherano was hard done to for the penalty too personally.

I don't think this makes sense tbh

The wording may not be the best but my point is, Messi's team need him to carry the creating for the team AND score. Ronaldo has the luxury of wondering about and hunting goals. Now don't get me wrong, I got Ronaldo as top 3 all-time because of his achievements and career but in this sport, he doesn't have to do as much

I think it’s a penalty for 2 reasons,

the player controlled the ball onto his arm, doesn’t matter if it was mistimed and accidental, as he headed it onto his own arm.

he prevented the Nigerian player having a chance on goal by sticking his arm in the way.

 But there again, I’m thick.

If you had seen Peru just put in that performance you would say France will batter them. Argentina are really bad and are living on their reputation.

Argentina are shit, definitely, resurgent is a laugh.

But France have been beyond average themselves and playing in a much easier group.

They're both crap mate.

Why the belief that a France side that couldn't even put one past a stale Denmark team at this World Cup will beat a resurgent Argentina?

They now have the belief and the form to perform well in the knockout stages.

Not convinced by France.

Both teams happy with a point. Secures France top spot and Danish second. France rested many a player too. Surely it's not that hard to see?

Would you be saying it's dodgy if that's against the Swiss tomorrow. Doubtful.

France pushed their own luck against Australia and only scraped through against Peru.

Again, not convinced by either team, but Argentina have their belief back and that will give them the boost to get by France.

Mate. Ronaldo has dragged Portugal on his own pretty much for the last 8 years. Minimum.

If it wasn't for Ronaldo basically being the greatest player to play the game they wouldn't have even qualified for the euros they won.

We've already had something similar in the game against Serbia with the Mitrovic incident, so the quota's already been used up. :D

Besides, I rate Costa Rica, did an admirable job against Brazil until very, very late into the game - but them beating us? Hmm... They have nothing left to play for and a draw will suit Switzerland just fine.

I find it hard to see it, just compare the defence and midfield of both teams, France are well ahead there Argentina don’t even have a midfield

The thing is, I don't think France have a team. A collection of talented individuals, but a team?

Today's result will soothe the collective pain in this Argentina side and gel everyone together.

It doesn't matter how you played in the group stages as long as you get through. Everyone starts the knockout stages with a clean slate. Germany have been shit but nobody wants them in the next round.

Stand by it. I just think france has more to offer even if they havent been at their best.
