I'm not arsed what SKY or the press think. 

 

Whether we're BIG or not doesn't bother me, we are what we are and should be proud of our provincial status. I look at the likes of Ajax, Dortmund and Sevilla, all of whom are traditionally more successful than us but operate with similar models - developing and signing young players with potential that can be sold on for big profits and then reinvesting the big transfer fees so that they remain competitive.

 

We already offer something the bigger clubs can't - incredible facilities, a progressive culture and an opportunity in the first team if you're good enough and you might get your big move.

 

If we're competing in and around the top 6 consistently and qualifying for european competitions, and challenging for the odd cup that's a huge achievement for me.

strange how everyone focuses on who's the biggest and not who's the best? let's just quietly keep doing what we're doing, of we start finishing in the top 4 every year I really don't care if we're not one of the"big 6"

Imagine how boring it must be to support a "big" club? Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool fans are so used to trophies they see it as some sort of birth right. Man City and Chelsea bought their way into the system and consistently break the rules to maintain their paid-for status. Spurs are just sort of 'there' and Everton haven't won anything in 25 years. Celtic are winning everything because they have literally had no opposition for almost a decade. And look how they behave when things don't go their way.

 

We know our 'place'. The media and authorities remind us of it constantly. The commentary on yesterday's match was so incessantly biased towards the bigger club even after they pointed out we have won the league more recently. We're not supposed to be up here. Why? Because we're a traditionally small team without *much* success in our history, and we haven't bought into the system. We won the league in 2016 on pure merit, and that's difficult for everyone else to understand because it's so unusual. 

 

I was saying in the post match thread yesterday, that Scholes was actually trying to be respectful but his mentality was still that Arsenal are the bigger club. I personally believe this suits us. Let us keep improving under the radar. Let's develop some world class players at our world class facility. We're building up momentum and they're not going to stop us. We'll always surprise them because we're 'little Leicester' and that's fine. I love seeing them squirm.

Savage is a contrarian. He loves winding his fellow pundits up and he's ex-Leicester when it suits him. Don't get me wrong, I loved him as a player for us and I like how he still gets under people's skin, but he's there to create a controversial viewpoint.

 

Scholes is a dyed-in-the-wool Manchester United cheerleader. We could win the league every year for the next 20 with Man Utd languishing in League Two and he'd still draw on history and fanbase and argue that they're bigger.

 

The truth is, I think, that what the owners have put in place is a decades long process. Our transition to the elite has begun but it'll take a long time for others outside our bubble see it, and to them it'll be as if it's happened almost instantly.

 

The owners always keep the fans, the club and the city front of mind in whatever decision they make. They're strengthening this club's foundations. We will see them exploit the global market and increase the worldwide fanbase, and when they do, supporters worldwide will see a squad full of superstars, a top manager, a world-class training facility with a reputation for bringing through exceptional young talent, and an expanded, stylish stadium with sell-out crowds most weekends.

 

That's what I think will happen. It could take 10-20 more years for it to be fully realised, but when it does we'll truly be an elite club.

Problem with ‘little Leicester’ is that it feeds into the idea that players have to leave us in order to improve their careers. Hopefully under Rodgers, behind the scenes (having managed huge football clubs) he’s telling the players that we are a big club & they are world class footballers giving them that extra bit of confidence and motivation to do well.

The "Top Six" is a media construct, they have to create a label to describe something.  The pundits and Journalists then become lazy and repeat this falsehood until it becomes the truth.  It would be better to descibe it as the top six richest clubs, because (normally) money matters in the game.  Man city & Chelsea are only in the media's top six due to money, Arsenal's place in it was due to Wenger and Spurs are only in it because of the shiny new stadium!  Manure & Scousepool are probably the two giants of English football due to their fan base.

Big club status for me:

 

Stadium Capacity - at least 50k ideally 60k plus and filled for big club status.

 

Qualify for Europe consistently for 5 years plus.

 

Facilities and reputation that attracts big players.

 

Everything is building for Leicester in the direction of it being a big club. Foundations are great and becoming more solid by the season. To get to big club status though, we NEED more ground capacity and everything else to keep on as is, getting better.

The simple fact is they are Big money Clubs, some have achieved it organically and some have just bought it with no thought to the cost involved.

 

We're growing organically with a measured input of finance and control.

 

Once you become a Big money Club where the reliance of maintaining that position is so dependant on overseas interest that your historical fan base will tend to be side-lined.

 

Can they be sure that that interest will always be there, will the fans in these overseas Countries start to take a bigger interest in their own Countries football as that inevitably improves?

 

We'll probably never be a Big Money Club but the satisfaction from doing it our ways is surely much better.

The perception of every club is defined by the commentators, those in the media, both written and video. Typically they are either ex-players from successful clubs or journalists who are sensible, and adhere to their audiences desires.

 

The big 6 term is a lazy term and it defines historic and financial success, this has typically been decided on merit in ye olde days, but now, financial power need not relate directly to merit on the pitch. That can clearly not last indefinitely, but it certainly provides such clubs a large window in which to sort their sh*t out.

Perhaps yeah, though it feels as if Everton have spent a fortune over the past 5 years or so, but it’s only really started to click for them this season.

On the assumption we stay up this season, next season we’ll start our 8th successive year as a top flight club, we’ve only achieved that once in the past between 1957-1969. The perennial yo yo club in most peoples eyes until 2016.
 

You’d hope this period will see us sustain our longest ever spell in the top flight , for hopefully at least 25 years. If that can be aiming towards the top 6 most seasons and challenging in the cups and Europe numerous times that would be remarkable.
