Loan watch 2018-19

Recommended Posts

Why recall the lad? We did it last year and he went back to the u23s. He looks like he's really hit the ground running and a year of this will surely build his confidence no end. The experience of being at an upper championship team and the pressure of being expected to be there or there abouts will really help his development

Sure weren't the majority of the 2015/16 side playing championship until their mid 20s.

Bc of how strong Pereira is on the wing. Which is where I'd prefer to see him, opposite Gray, something Puel has noticed and been toying with since the preseason.

And if Barnes continues dominating the Prem, we could use his creativity after seeing how easily we were stifled when Wolves kept Maddison off the ball. Two players with that sort of attacking creativity are far better than one, tho obv if we aren't going to play him, then sure, keep him in the championship.

We should be trying Ghazzel in those situations really. And moving Gray up to give us two up front.

Seems like a decent shot stopper.

6 appearances, 2 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, 6 conceded, 2 clean sheets.

From the replies to the video, needs to work on his kicking and coming for corners/crosses.

Has also been booked twice.

Leicester City loan watch: Islam Slimani off the mark, Harvey Barnes 'brilliant again'
Seven of City's nine loanees played for their clubs over the weekend

ByJordan Blackwell
06:00, 3 SEP 2018

Islam Slimani bagged the first goal of his Fenerbahce loan spell but could not prevent the Turkish giants falling to another loss.

The on-loan Leicester City striker put his side 2-1 in front just before the hour mark of their home clash with Kayserispor, swivelling in the box and finishing from 12 yards.

But the visitors responded with a quickfire double, meaning Slimani has now lost each of his three matches for Fenerbahce, who are already nine points off the pace in the Turkish Super Lig.

Slimani Goal - https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-city-loan-watch-islam-1962935

In the Championship, Harvey Barnes was “brilliant again”, the attacking midfielder helping West Brom to a 2-1 win over Stoke.

While the 20-year-old did not add to his goal or assist tally, he was instrumental in the Baggies’ attacking play.

Barnes was awarded an eight by BirminghamLive (only goalscorer Dwight Gayle fared better), who said: “Stoke resorted to fouling Barnes to stop him because they struggled to keep up with his speed of thought and deed. Came close to scoring a couple of times.”

The Express & Star added that Barnes was “the boy that makes this system tick. Always in space, always ready to receive the ball on the half turn, always ready to run at defenders. Barnes is a joy to watch, and while a more experienced finisher may have lifted his shot over (Jack) Butland’s leg, he was brilliant again here.”

Daniel Iversen played a crucial role again for Oldham in League Two, saving a penalty in the Latics’ 2-1 win over Crawley.

George Thomas did not enjoy quite such a good afternoon. He lasted just 45 minutes of Scunthorpe’s 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley in League One, substituted at half-time by Stuart McCall, managing his first game for the club.

Thomas “ran around quite a lot trying to make things happen but nothing came off for him,” said GrimsbyLive , who awarded him a five.

Filip Benkovic will have to wait for his Celtic debut , Brendan Rodgers opting not to throw the Croatian in at the deep end: the Glasgow derby.

Centre-back Benkovic was named on the bench, but that is where he remained as Celtic beat Rangers 1-0.

Elliott Moore and Kamal Sowah played 90 minutes for City’s sister club OH Leuven, who lost their first league of the season, falling 3-1 at home to Westerlo. There was no place in the squad for Bartosz Kapustka, who joined the club on Friday .

In National League North, Max Bramley and AFC Telford remain in second place, the goalkeeper helping his side to a 2-1 victory over Ashton United.

Really good to see the likes of Barnes and Iversen hitting some real form at a decent level and getting regular plaudits for their efforts. Barnes is really exciting, I hope he gets the full season out at WBA and I'm looking forward to seeing him back at Leicester next season to see his progression.

Forgot he was on loan tbh. Played six in the league and conceded five. Oldham might be pushing for promotion this year. We should probably loan out that Johannson next season too.

These Celtic fans gave a mixed reception to Filip Benkovic’s debut vs St Mirren

Defender Filip Benkovic made his debut for Celtic on Friday night and fans appear to be split on how good he looked in his first outing.

The Hoops drew 0-0 away to St Mirren, failing to capitalise on the impressive win over Rangers at Celtic Park before the international break.

It was a frustrating evening for Brendan Rodgers’ side, going down to ten men in the first half after Olivier Ntcham was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

The Celtic boss decided to start with three central defenders at the back, handing Filip Benkovic his debut after making the switch from Leicester City on a season-long loan.

While the clean sheet was kept, it did look a less than convincing set-up in the first half, with the home side enjoying the majority of attacking chances.

Benkovic looked fairly comfortable though, before eventually being taken off for striker Leigh Griffiths after an hour, with Rodgers looking for the crucial goal.

Many supporters seemed pretty pleased with his first hour in the Hoops…

Celtic  better in this half....I really like the look of Benkovic...Big Eddy seems to have lost the ability to beat a men...have said this a million times, he's not as good with his back to goal..unlike Dembele. much better running at the right back...

On the plus side Benkovic looks like he can pick a nice pass out from defence.

Leigh Griffiths comes on to replace Filip Benkovic. How does that one rank as far as debuts go, Celtic fans?

Absoutely strolled it, looks obviously class.  Tough on Ajer, but I'd go 4-4-2 with Boyata and Benkovic as CB's.  Ajer is one for the future and on a long contract, so he has plenty of time to develop (and he will).

He was a bit of a panic, last minute signing. So no real surprise tbh. I hope he turns good & proves me wrong though but I have my doubts.

Nice to see the young keepers doing well.

I remember when we signed Iverson and I thought he would be pushing Kasper at some point in the future.

Hopefully still on track for that, as he did come as a very highly rated youngster when he joined.
