Harvey Barnes set up West Bromwich Albion’s first goal during their 2-2 Sky Bet Championship draw with Aston Villa at the Hawthorns on Friday night.

Scottish League Cup Success For Benković & Celtic
Continued Success For City's Eight Loan Stars
- Six Leicester City players featured for their loan clubs over the weekend
- Harvey Barnes grabbed an assist in West Bromwich Albion’s 2-2 draw with rivals Aston Villa
- Filip Benković and Daniel Iversen both helped their sides to victory on Saturday

With the visiting side already leading through forward Anwar El-Ghazi’s 12th-minute strike, Barnes breezed past right-back Alan Hutton before lifting a fine pass into the path of Dwight Gayle, who beat Orjan Nyland with a first-time effort.

El-Ghazi restored Villa’s lead after the break, but Jay Rodriguez was on target in the first minute of injury time to secure a point for Darren Moore’s men.

On the same evening, Poland international winger Bartosz Kapustka played 90 minutes for OH Leuven in their 3-1 Proximus League reverse to KSV Roeselare.

Filip Benković has featured 14 times for Celtic this season, scoring once in the process.

They had initially led through midfielder Mathieu Maertens, but strikes from Andrei, Stijn De Smet and Thiebaut Van Acker sealed three points for the hosts.

Filip Benković, meanwhile, again tasted victory for Celtic as his outfit swept Kilmarnock aside to move back to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 5-1 win.

Four goals in the first half courtesy of James Forrest, Odsonne Edouard, Mikael Lustig and Ryan Christie put Brendan Rodgers’ men into a commanding lead before Forrest added another after the break.

Benković lifted the Scottish League Cup last weekend, playing the full game as Celtic defeated Aberdeen 1-0 at Hampden Park.

Another man to enjoy his weekend outing was Denmark youth international goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, who kept a clean sheet in Oldham Athletic’s 2-0 win at Crewe Alexandra in League 2.

Daniel IverseotoDaniel Iversenn has been heavily involved for Oldham Athletic this season, playing 23 times in all competitions.

First-half strikes from Peter Clarke and Chris O'Grady saw Oldham extend their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions, with Iversen missing just one fixture during that period.

Over in the Turkish Süper Lig, Algeria international striker Islam Slimani played from start to finish in Fenerbahçe's 3-0 defeat to Akhisarspor – a side the Foxes faced in the summer in a pre-season friendly.

Goals from Jeremy Bokila, Elvis Manu and Adrien Regattin means Fenerbahçe – 19-time Super Lig champions – sit 16th in the table after 15 fixtures.

Finally, Wales international forward George Thomas played 71 minutes for Scunthorpe United in their 2-0 loss at home to Gillingham on Saturday.

Two goals in the space of three minutes from Tom Eaves and Dean Parrett after the break saw the Iron suffer their third consecutive League 1 defeat.

Here's how City loanees around Europe fared over the weekend

Fousseni Diabate “will get even better” after the Leicester City loanee made an impressive full debut for Turkish side Sivasspor.

Diabate played 80 minutes of his new club’s 1-1 draw with Trabzonspor, catching the eye with his pace and trickery, before fading late on.

His manager Hakan Keles said: “He is slowly adapting to the team. The first match showed a positive performance but he will get even better.”

Elliott Moore scored for the second week running as City’s sister club OH Leuven picked up a first victory in eight games.

Centre-back Moore showed a striker’s touch and finish as Leuven beat Lommel United 3-2 thanks to an 89th-minute winner.

Bartosz Kapustka also played in the win for Nigel Pearson’s side, who still face an uphill battle to avoid the relegation play-offs in the Belgian second tier, needing to bridge a seven-point gap with five games remaining.

Filip Benkovic kept the 15th clean sheet of his Celtic loan spell as Brendan Rodgers’ side beat Hamilton 3-0.

The victory put Benkovic and co. three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

George Thomas played 90 minutes as Scunthorpe recorded a fifth win in six to further ease their League One relegation fears.

Wales international Thomas played on the left wing for the 1-0 victory over Fleetwood, and was not as effective as in previous weeks.

“He saw plenty of the ball but was not as influential as he is behind the strikers,” the Grimsby Telegraph wrote, awarding Thomas six out of 10.

In the Championship, Callum Elder was an unused substitute as bottom-of-the-table Ipswich lost 2-1 at Aston Villa.

Elder, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Sunday, had conceded a penalty the week before.

In the FA Cup fourth round, Daniel Iversen made a string of saves but could not reproduce his penalty-saving heroics from the third round as a late Doncaster spot-kick knocked Oldham out.

Islam Slimani and Fenerbahce are still to play. A victory over third-placed Yeni Matalyaspor on Monday (5pm kick-off) would see the struggling Turkish giants jump out of the relegation zone.

Nice to see Diabate performed against one of the stronger Turkish sides.

Decided to watch some of our loanees being as there's no Leicester today. Diabate with 2 assists and won the free kick that lead to a 3rd goal for Sivasspor but has just limped off with an injury. Knight & Johnson start on the bench for Peterborough & Hibs respectively. Iversen's/Oldham's game has been postponed. Elder left out of the Ipswich squad. Thomas starts for Scunthorpe.

Good news that Diabate performed so well! I hope he can realise his potential.

Adrien Silva was starting on the bench for Monaco tonight but played the last 30 minutes.
Nothing interesting to say about his performance but Monaco managed to grab his first win at home this season with a goal by Fabregas

score 2-1

It’s probably lucky they offloaded that useless Tielemans then!

Leicester City loan watch: Fousseni Diabate 'dazzles' and Adrien Silva makes debut
How City's 12 loanees got on over the weekend

ByJordan Blackwell

Leicester City winger Fousseni Diabate marked the second start of his Sivasspor loan spell with a pair of assists.

The young Malian produced a ‘dazzling’ performance in the 3-1 win over Kasimpasa, with two teasing deliveries from the right flank tucked away by his team-mates.

Diabate is one of a number of City players who left on loan in January, but not many featured.

Josh Knight and Darnell Johnson were unused substitutes for Peterborough and Hibernian respectively as they look for the first league appearances of their careers, while Andy King was ineligible for Derby’s goalless draw with Preston having not been
However, Adrien Silva did make his Monaco debut, and with it, his first league appearance since August. The Portuguese midfielder played the final 18 minutes as Monaco beat Toulouse 2-1 for the Ligue 1 strugglers' first home win of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Elliott Moore and Bartosz Kapustka featured as a last-minute goal saw OH Leuven lose 1-0 to Roeselare, a result that cost Nigel Pearson his job at City’s sister club.

Attacking midfielder George Thomas “did not look comfortable” playing a deeper role in Scunthorpe’s 2-0 defeat to Barnsley in League One but still earned a 6/10 rating from GrimsbyLive.

Islam Slimani was an unused substitute as Fenerbahce beat Goztepe 2-0 to pull away from the relegation zone, but Callum Elder did not even make Ipswich’s squad as their Championship woes continued with a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

Filip Benkovic played no part in Celtic’s 2-0 win over St. Johnstone, the Croatian centre-back remains out until next month with an ankle injury, while Daniel Iversen did not have the chance to improve his excellent clean-sheet record as Oldham’s League Two clash with Morecambe was called off because of a frozen pitch.
