Leicester pub the Swan and Rushes has re-opened after being empty for more than a year.

The pub, in Infirmary Square, closed in March 2017 after its lease came to an end, but now new owners have brought the venue back to life.

The team behind The Broadway in Abbey Lane and the Sports Lounge in Oadby have taken on the pub, which was popular with rugby and football fans.

They've transformed it from a traditional pub into a sports bar.

Changes have been made both inside and outside the venue - including opening up the interior and bringing the garden area back to life.

Nine jobs have also been created.

As well as the live sports action, customers will be able to enjoy a selection of lagers, ales - including a guest ale, spirits, wines, and more.

Looking for a job? There are lots here
You'll be able to make the most of the all-day food offering, too.

Breakfast will be served from 10am until 12pm, and then fast food such as pizzas, pies, burgers and fish and chips, will be available throughout the remainder of the day.

All food will also be available to take away.

It will be offering a 10 per cent discount to NHS workers and NUS card holders.

The Swan and Rushes is at 19 Infirmary Square, Leicester and opens 12pm until 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 12pm until 12am Friday and Saturday.

The old Swan & Rushes was a great place for a beer on match days but was empty for the rest of the week. The new owners seem to have addressed this & hopefully it will become a "new" pub success.

The way to basically guarantee any pub success is to appeal to students. We buy and drink a lot ?

Lol ! Just playing mate.

In talks with the swan and rushes at the moment regarding entertainment, and would love for it to be a success.

I went in on Sunday and it was bland. The food was nice but aside from cobs it shouldn't be serving any food at all. What made the swan great was the atmosphere, decor and beer selection and now it's a run of the mill "sports bar".

Up to us to stop that 'run of the mill' thing going on then.

DMU students appear not to. Let the Swan, Font and the gaff on the students union all die in the last year or so.

It's convenient for the football but it looks a little soulless now.

There's another Leicester pub that is missed, that's been closed down for good ten years yet nothing has happened to building since, the name escapes but its the pub next to the infirmary near the rugby ground?

Might be the 'pride of Leicester'.

Knocked down a couple or so years ago.
