Went to lilu a few years back and really enjoyed it. I ordered a chicken phal and the waiter was like "man are you sure? That is big boy shit" I was like yeah i always order it it'll be fine. Anyway it came and literally all the kitchen staff were at the door to see who ordered the phal. I thought ok bit weird but whatever. Yeah anyway it was like eating petrol soup that had been set alight in terms of heat (tasted good though). I managed the majority and then went outside. This random fella came out and shook my hand and was like "woah man are you the guy who had the phal?" I was like yeah. He said "wow I'm impressed that was hot, I dipped my finger in it to try"

Who the hell dips their finger in a complete strangers food?!

anyway not leicester but my fave Indian is cinnamon tree which is kinda near Coalville that place is worth a journey for sure. Also if anyone is near ashby then little India is absolutely amazing.

Had a great meal at the Taraj Palace last night. Poppadoms & dips to start and then Lamb Balti as main, with shared pilau rice and peshwari naan. Lamb was succulent and sauce was nice, although maybe next time i will ask for it to be a bit more spicy.

£61 for a table of x4 including a couple rounds of drink was very cheap.

Would 100% recommend to anyone, but suggest booking as we went early doors and by the time we left around 8.30 it was packed.

Warning with the Chilli and Coriander dip though, its really nice but HOT as. Hoping its not as hot coming out as it was going it :S

Amazing how your system adapts to the stuff.

In the 70’s and 80’s, they were nowhere near as popular, and when you had one, it was like eating fire. Just a normal curry blasted your system to pieces.

Now it’s just normal to eat, your system handles it and your farts are just as if you were eating fish and chips.

It really was like a trauma to the system back then.

Surprised no one has mentioned the little curry house on blackbird road yet. Has a bar but it's a bit rough and ready

You mean Anstey Lane?

food is very good but the clientele in the downstairs bar puts a lot of people off going there.

During the summer it seems obligatory to be a tradesman or not wear a tshirt if you want to stand outside there having a drink

Only downside on the food is it took over 45 mins for our takeaway to be ready on a night when nobody was in the restaurant (and I mean nobody)

I don't know if it's the same...but my last trip home 3 yrs ago,I went to the little India in Ashby.

Nothing pretencious, simple on the table Indian food.Loved the starters. My wife and travelling daughter found it well presented, and

Just simply tasty,over  their expectations!!!

It was like walking into someone's big eating room.lovely Staff busy but took time to explain the vegetable fair(wife vegetarian)

And we do know our Indian faire....very pleasant service.  I have walking stocks,I went to go for a beer, they offered and went

To get me 2. But indiscretely.   Nearly full but still had a place for 3 without reservation,we were earlyish, but didn't get pushed out.

So recommendable...

I went to an Indian restaurant in Syston with some work colleagues 10 years or so ago and I ordered steak and chips, as it was on the menu. They still rip the piiss about it on the radio now. And rightly so.

Was it The Spice of India?

Can't imagine the others Indians around putting that on their plates.

don't see a problem really, most restaurants have 'english dishes' most chinese places do omelette and chips or sirloin steak. same with curry houses.

Not much point going if you want an English dish. If you want steak and chips go to a Wetherspoons.
