Puels English...in interviews he always says the same things

Recommended Posts

Getting a bit tired of watching his interviews where he repeats the same limited cliche phrases 'quality' 'focus' 'very important' 'good feelings' etc. Am I the only person who feels he never actually says anything. I'm not knocking him because I'm certain he will be saying more to the players but he really should be working harder on learning better English or perhaps for now he should do interviews in his native tongue and maybe we will get to hear what he really thinks. Thoughts?

Orrrr his English is fine and he's not allowed to say what he completely wants to and needs to 'feed' the beast that is the English press, so just says the usual clichés.

That Monaco fan said he's fairly dull in French too. I'm still shocked he made a joke before the United match.

As long he delivers the performances and results it's all good.

His interviews are a million times more interesting than this thread.

Don't all managers say the same things based on whether it's about training, pre-match, post-match win, post-match loss, post-match draw, post match ref's fault.

There's a universal set of cliches to suit the occasion even from the likes of Pep, Klopp etc

It's not easy to be original when asked the same questions for every type of situation.

Maybe it's just me but I like to hear managers be a little bit more specific as to what they feel went wrong....what went right and how they intend to change it. Just saying he's a good player for us...there's a positive feeling....I am very happy doesn't tell us anything we wouldn't already know.

You want him to give away our lineup and tactics to our next opponents?

Not sure what fans expect him to say. He's not there to give us the ins and outs of running a football club or tell us his views on stadium expansions, in fact the only thing of any interest to us is injury updates.

Errr no!!! Since when has speaking better English and being more precise meant giving away lineups and tactics??

Thoughts? I suggest you stop watching them. All manager interviews are a waste of time, do you really expect to learn a few secrets from them?

p.s. how good is your French?

I disagree with the OP and think they are "dull" mainly down to restrictions upon what managers dare say due to the veracity of our press and, secondarily, due to English being his second language.  However, having said that, people's responses on here are a bit mental and harsh on the OP.  I disagree with what he says but I am willing to understand where he is coming from.  To simply say "Don't watch them/would you prefer Holloway (strawman response)" or just have a go at the OP seems a little classless of us.

I think what the OP is saying is that it would be nice to know what he really thinks. These interviews are the only way us as fans can connect to him/give us an insight into his thinking.

we get neither and they are dull and repetitive.

Some of the replies Holloway, don’t watch etc are absolutely embarrassing.

I love hearing quality and intensity, every week.

Being a leader is about inspiring the people around you, making people believe. He's press conferences are a chance to connect with the fans, inspire the club supporters, an opportunity to make them believe in him.

I love the excuse, how's your french, he choose to work in a foreign county, in a job where communication is key.

Post match interviews over the last few seasons/managers have proved to be a real mixed bag.

Nige- Awkward and cringeworthy, great manager but some of those interviews were terrible.

Claudio- The media loved him, entertaining and friendly, a natural.

Shakey- Pretty much normal stuff

Claude- just dull.

I dont think any manager can win when it comes to press conferences and post match interviews. If they speak their mind they're at risk at bringing the game into disrepute and a fine/ban. If they go safe, they're boring.

I think your first question calls for them to talk tactics and changing them would probably move into lineups.
