Puels English...in interviews he always says the same things

This post is very interesting with good quality, good structure. We need more of this quality and structure. For me this is very interesting.

I try and watch Puel interviews but have to switch off after the second "quality" so I never get to hear him complete a sentence. I'm not sure whether he's taking the piss or if he's just pissed.

For me the most interesting thing is how the manager's persona in public has become a thing all of a sudden. It's not just the opening poster, it's something I hear from many around the ground and I feel that the fans that still aren't convinced by him are partly motivated because it's hard to understand him and because he comes across as a fairly bland person in the media interviews. I can only think it's the Ranieri effect - he was so brilliant during that title winning year that we all loved it. His little anecdotes and personality such as buying the team a pizza were brilliant for us fans and it really endeared him to us.

For me I am kind of neutral on the subject. Puel never embarrasses himself or comes across as a sore loser in an interview like Mourinho. Neither does he come across as arrogant or full of himself (Brendan Rogers does for example which was a bit of a fear when he was linked with us). But at the same time he hasn't got that rapport of fun factor that Ranieri had or Klopp does. Neither does he have as much passion as Guardiola, nor does he have the likability that Eddie Howe has. He's just a very bog standard man in terms of personality!

It was nice to see him make the joke before the Manchester United game, because it made him seem more human. Same as when he was going crazy after we thrashed Southampton away from home last year. It's not necessary to see it, but personally one of my favourite ever managers was O'Neil. Sometimes he was more entertaining to watch than the game itself! It made very likable indeed.

You were doing so well until you suggested Howe is likeable.

Quote me where I said communication to some football fan is key to his job.

I was making a point that communication is a key part of being a leader.

By the way I'm not paid over a million pound a year to comment on a forum, so I can forgive myself a few typos!

However he is paid a large amount of money to lead a football team.

This thread is about how boring and uninformative Puel's interviews on TV/Radio are. What has that got to do with his leading a football team? Either you're not communicating your point very well or it's wrong.

Alex Ferguson seems to think differently, 'Do not underestimate the power of a press conference', "For a manager, no matter the result, at a press conference you need to come out as the winner," he told attendees at the launch of his book 'Alex Ferguson Leading',"You can kill yourself in a press conference... It’s an important part of your job."

Are the press interviews his only chance to talk to the players?

Yeah but you're getting wound up over his interviews which have no bearing on how well he actually communicates with the people you complain of him being paid to lead.

I'm surprised no one else has picked up on this, but Claude is pulling a fast one here.

His English is actually impeccable, it is all a Dalgliesh-style front, except that Kenny would go into broad Glaswegian to (kind of) drain an interview of any steam.

Getting a bit tired of watching his interviews where he repeats the same limited cliche phrases 'quality' 'focus' 'very important' 'good feelings' etc. Am I the only person who feels he never actually says anything. I'm not knocking him because I'm certain he will be saying more to the players but he really should be working harder on learning better English or perhaps for now he should do interviews in his native tongue and maybe we will get to hear what he really thinks. Thoughts?

Couldn't give a damn,or one iota...weird obsession on this forum,about Puels interviews...You don't win of lose points

on post match managers interviews....

P lu s posters, who have no patience with his English,is their problem...and shows their own ignorance.

No just having a chat about leadership, when ever a leader communicates it can have an impact on his team he leads, or do you think players sit in a bubble and never read or listen to the press?

As i stated earlier, Alex Ferguson seems to think differently, 'Do not underestimate the power of a press conference', "For a manager, no matter the result, at a press conference you need to come out as the winner," he told attendees at the launch of his book 'Alex Ferguson Leading',"You can kill yourself in a press conference... I actual think its a interesting subject, rather than reading threads about people slating players after four games.

Ferguson is a good source but as a fan of a team that's been managed by Pearson and Holloway you should know to take his views on this particular issue with a few grains.  Much rather judge a manager on the mood in the dressing room and the tactics on the pitch.

Don't all managers say the same things based on whether it's about training, pre-match, post-match win, post-match loss, post-match draw, post match ref's fault.

There's a universal set of cliches to suit the occasion even from the likes of Pep, Klopp etc

It's not easy to be original when asked the same questions for every type of situation.

Mourinho likes to stray from that script on occasion... lol

Who cares?

Interview's and press conferences are just obligations of the job that he has to fulfil.  Perhap's Puel takes the view that it is better to just dead bat the questions away, don't court controversy, don't give anything away and get the job done.  I'm sure, given his body language on the touchline, that he is a different person behind the scenes, but all that matters is how he gets the team to perform n the pitch.

Yes his interviews are boring and I don't even think it's a language thing, I just think the way he speaks is dull, in any language. However, as long as he is able to get messages across to the players or at least have people around him who can, then it really isn't an issue at all.

I do like how passionate he is on the side line and you can often here him shouting out orders.

Puel's hardly the only one with bland soundbites in pre-match press conferences and post-match interviews.

For most managers and players alike, it's a chore.

So, I wouldn't read too much into it.
