VLC86 Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 This is top work. The bloke is out injured after snapping his ankle in two so I can fully understand why we want to tie him to a longer contract. Announce an extension for Matty James.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 This is going to wind up so many and for that reason alone, fantastic news.
Foxxed Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 Much improved this season and can play two positions well. Good for him and us.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 I think this news gives us an indication of the club’s ambitions....and not in a good way.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 Makes sense to extend, young and has sell on value. also happy as a squad player and potentially to be a first team player
Babylon Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 "Vichai was an amazing bloke, so kind how he looked after people he didn't know, how generous he was to his staff and how he looked after the players" "****ing clubs a joke giving a young injured player a new contract"
TheLittleBigMan Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 Can't see a problem with that. I mean he's young, he's, well he's young.

If they think it's a relatively easy thing to come back from, if Amartey is happy to stay and play second fiddle at right back, then I'm not massively sure what the issue is. People applaud the owners for the spirit they helped create at the club and then scoff or question them when looking after young players, who are also assets worth more with several years on their contract than just one.
Master Fox Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 He's pretty good on an exercise bike at least. Worth a new contract just for his dance moves and clowning around at training.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 Don't dislike Amartey but think he is a bit of a nothing player really. Not shit but hasn't exactly done much to deserve a new contract.

AlloverthefloorYesNdidi Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 People can slag him off, but i think we've been a weaker squad without him. He gives us that bit of flexibility

If we ever want to make money back on players, then it makes sense to keep them under a contract. He's absolutely fine as right back cover.

brucey Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 He's probably happy to sign for relatively low wages. If the medical team are happy to give the go ahead then it's fine for squad cover. We signed Maddison while he was injured, but only after 10 medicals that showed he was recovering well. Dan must have had at least 20 medicals.
Nicolo Barella Posted 20 December 2018 Posted 20 December 2018 He's a utility player, every squad needs one. Massive injury crises at CM or CB and he can drop in, or he can play RB if Ricardo is out. As long as we aren't paying him an idiotic sum, why are people complaining? It's not like he's here for another five years, it's a 2 1/2 year contract.
