LiberalFox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 0-0 vs Burnley 1-1 vs Brighton 2-0 vs Watford 1-1 vs Fulham 0-2 vs Tottenham 0-1 vs Palace 1-0 vs Chelsea 2-1 vs Man City 0-1 vs Cardiff 1-0 vs Everton 4 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses for a total of 15 points which is a decent haul. 8 goals for and 7 against. Out of those 10 teams, 5 are in the top half of the table and 5 are in the bottom half. Our record against the 5 teams in the top half is 4 wins and 1 loss, 6 goals for and 3 against. 12 points in total. Our record against the 5 teams in the bottom half is 3 draws and 2 losses, 2 goals for and 4 against. 3 points in total. I think this shows why opinion on Puel is so split, when we play teams we are "supposed" to beat we've underperformed, but we've picked up alot of points from the "tough" games playing on the counter.
Nalis Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 It's just bog standard mid table mediocrity really. Reckon our next 10 games wont be far off 4 W, 3 D, 3 L either.
shailen Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 It really does frustrate me because we can get ourselves up for the big games and we have in every single one this season but struggle against the so called weaker teams. I would like us to change it up - more fluidity or even two up front against the weaker teams and get numbers in the box.
lcfcsnow Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Our goals for is really poor over the last few months, we need different threats going forward else it'll continue the same which is one goal a game or less. 9 goals in August from 4 games. 2.25g per game 8 goals in September from 5 games. 1.6g per game 3 goals in October from 3 games. 1g per game 2 goals in November from 4 games. 0.5g per game 8 goals in December from 8 games. 1g per game
Sir Shep Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 I can’t argue with the form or where we are in the table, It’s about what I’d expect, just a shame a lot of the time we play dull side ways football that bores spectators to death. I’m not saying a Puel out, mostly because I don’t see anyone better and maybe it will improve in time but I understand the frustrations of a lot of fans who get lampooned for having a different opinion to others on here.
StanSP Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 We're doing well to be in 7th and it's exactly what you'd expect for a side to finish there. I really can't complain about 9 points out of 12 in the last 4 matches. It'd be nice to get some momentum going in the cup (without a replay) and before we play Liverpool and Utd in a month's time.

The people who get "lampooned" are the ones who talk out of the arse mostly and just can't give any credit at all to the manager. There is plenty of balanced differing opinions on here that discuss the negatives about Puel that pass without name calling or piss taking.
David Hankey Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 "Decent haul"!! 15 points from a possible 30? We should be aiming at a higher return than that.
siraaj_lcfc Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 9 out of a possible 12 points in some difficult games. Not Bad. Not Bad at all.

Arsenal 18, Man U 18, Chelsea 19 from 30. You seriously think our points return should be comparable to those teams.

Stadt Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 I don't think we're good enough for 7th but nobody else is either so it's up for grabs
Captain... Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 It’s not just the results, it’s the performance against Cardiff, Brighton, Palace, Fulham and Burnley. In all those games we could have won. We missed chances and could easily have picked up 6 or 7 more points, especially if we kept 11 men on the pitch... ...but in all those games we didn’t look convincing. Even against Cardiff it wasn’t like we created a ton of chances, we weren’t battering down the Palace goal or really putting Burnley under huge amounts of pressure. We looked poor in all 5 of those games and that’s a trend that has continued since Puel took over. Defend well against Leicester and they will present you with chances, it’s too easy and too common for weaker teams to come to the KP and get something. The victories against Man City, Chelsea, Everton, Watford show we have talented players.

I know there’s a gap in quality, but Spurs have scored 3 against Cardiff in 26 mins, we have scored 1 in 180. The quality going forward against those teams has been awful, pedestrian and predictable
adam95581 Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 This proves what we already knew - we’re lacking one or two more creative players (new winger and a plan B striker). Pre-season we thought Nacho could be the Vardy alternative but it hasn’t worked out - sell and replace. Ghezzal has proved again again today that he isn’t up to it (and tiredness isn’t an excuse for him) - sell and replace. We have also built a really strong defence which puts us in a good position to build on in the summer. Keep Puel, back him and see where else we can go.

Where to do you set your standards of satisfaction?
coolhandfox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 He's sorted the defence, just needs more time and transfer windows to sort the attacking options.

They couldn't beat Wolves at home, we did 2-0 and they lost to them 3-1............just saying

I'm satisfied being top 10 this season and thrilled to be the best of the rest currently. Without significant investment over a long period of time, anything else is a pipe dream.
Babylon Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 **** it, why stop with Spurs... we should be matching Liverpool.

Nothing the players do is the manager's fault the team is young and tired from too many games, Puel in. 1-0 vs Everton Terrible quality and only one shot on target with almost zero entertainment Puel out, or - result is all that matters after 3 tough games in a few days, manager rotated players to good effect, Puel in. I think this shows why opinion on Puel is so split, when we play teams we are "supposed" to beat we've underperformed, but we've picked up alot of points from the "tough" games playing on the counter. Not hard to see how easy it is to see the split in the fans. Add in the cup matches, the Southampton game was terrible, and the arguments on both sides just remain. The lack of goals is a concern and the entertainment, especially at home, could definitely do with an uplift, but, anyone complaining about our current league position does need to have a serious word with themselves.
foxinsocks Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Listen.. it's not the results. ... it's the manner of our play. Guess who i blame
