Rachid Ghezzal opens up on transfer, first half of season and road to improvement

The football experts on here had him hung, drawn and quartered before he'd kicked a ball for us. He's not been as bad as some like to make out. Plenty of room for improvement though

I get that, but he hasn't any attributes that say he is any better then he has shown.

He is a steady outfit, that would fit in a championship side.

No, not really.

The criticism was mainly directed at the club for a frankly odd signing.  I don't think it's Ghezzal's fault, he is who he is.

Love the attitude. Still really really hope that most of that 12 million price is performance based.

Yeah i mean its not like we do that with every player, based on past performances etc its just most players dont have a comedy reel of bloopers full of negativity

Sometimes we (certainly I) forget that these guys are young lads, moving to a foreign country, having to learn a foreign language, find new friends, new home, new everything.

I know they get help and astronomical wages to soften the blow, but there is a regular person in there and some people settle quicker than others.

Sounds like he has a good attitude and is prepared to work hard to push on.  Good luck to him.

I like him, I think he has a lot to offer given more time. Let's not forget that Mahrez was fairly average in the first year or so.

Mahrez was a lower tier unproven talent, slot different to this Gheeezer.  He was washed up before he came here

I will give £50 to the charity of your choice for every comment that you can find saying that anyone expected him to be the second coming of Mahrez.  Nobody thought that.

Worth a shot, the anglodan charity is in need of a beer kitty boost.....

Wolfox, Babylon and myself were all taking the piss.

Nobody can accuse me of ever comparing him favourably to Mahrez or expecting any quality from him.

I was militantly against the transfer. I don't think I've ever wanted us to avoid a player more. When we replaced Riyad with Ghezzal my optimism for this season evaporated on the spot.

Be great if he turned out to be brilliant.

Yeah definitely. I want all of our players to be good. The problem with this place is people assume everything is personal, I don't hate Ghezzal, I want him to come good, I'd love to be wrong. I've never booed a player or a substitution in my life and I never will. I just think he's bobbins.

Pretty honest comments from him, the lad needs time.

How many wrote vardy off in his first season, being honest I did.

How many slated mahrez, some still didn’t appreciate the player that he is.

We have lots of players who have been given a chance, and are still shit, but get hero worshipped because the where part of the title winning team, but the likes of this lad, silva etc get written off when they have barely been given a chance.

I have been pretty harsh about Ghezzal but it’s clear he has been made a scape goat and after some utter bell end at Newport was swearing in the blokes face I really want to see him succeed.

Wasn’t impressed when we bought him.

From what I have seen, he is tidy on the ball, decent close control and an eye for a through ball.

However he lacks any pace and a trick (yet to see him go past a full back yet!)

and plays everything at his own pace (and Puels)

Just does not suit us

I'll never understand what people hope to achieve with this shit.

The criticism for the transfer came from the fact that people knew exactly the player that we were signing and that he wasn't good enough.  And so it has come to pass.

Not Ghezzal's fault, but he's a very limited player coming with a recent history of failure.

I expected him to be the second coming of Mahrez.
