Why no woman's football team supported by the club?

Why do we not have a high quality woman's team supported by the club. Smaller teams then us have well backed woman's teams and our owner seem keen to back everything to do with the club apart from this. Just wondered why? and if there was a reason?

Fairly sure we recently did become linked with them?

This was raised at the FCC we do support and have links to them. But they are not officially our club.  But links are growing stronger all the time and dialogue is always on going.

I think 1 of the reasons against a full tie up was to do with the fact the county has 2 relatively successful women's clubs think there's Leicester Ladies or something as well. And they felt it maybe of detriment to the other if we tied one to the club.

Sure in time it will happen. Especially if they continue to be successful.

Late Heartbreak For City's Women Against Sheffield United

WOMEN'S TEAM

Published 19 hrs 6 mins ago

1 MinuteReading time

Leicester City were beaten 2-1 in dramatic circumstances by Sheffield United in the FA Women's Championship at Farley Way on Sunday.

On a day of family-based events, including a mothers vs. daughters match in Quorn, City's women also announced the signing of forward Simran Jhamat from Liverpool.

Inside the opening 10 minutes, Ebony Salmon went close for the visitors, while Foxes goalkeeper Demi Lambourne did well to save from Jade Pennock shortly after.

Leicester were denied an opener after the interval when Melissa Johnson rounded United's 'keeper, but a late block on the line kept the scores level.

With 17 minutes to go, though, the home side were in front as Hayley James headed home, sparking jubilant celebrations from a healthy home crowd in Quorn.

However, just three minutes later, the Blades drew level through Ellie Gilliatt and, with one minute to play, Pennock won it for the Yorkshire outfit.

Leicester are now eighth in the 11-team league standings, while they next welcome Durham Women to Farley Way on Sunday 28 April (2pm BST kick-off).

The details...

City: Lambourne, Franklin-Fraiture, Jackson, Morgan (c), Domingo (Axten 64'), M Johnson, Ayisi, Brown, N. Johnson, Smith, Jhamat (James 59')

Subs not used: Charlton, Nymoen, Worts, Moncaster

Goal: James 73'

There’s the Leicester City Ladies FC who have been around for about 50 years in mostly as an amateur status but don’t seem to be connected with the club - their own kits, own badge and identity, though they did post a condolence message on their website for Vichai when he died.

Theres also Leicester City Women FC who have been established since 2004 and are connected to the club - they used to get the previous season’s men’s kits but this season they’re using the current one, probably more due to the change to Adidas than anything else. LCFC have also started featuring them a lot more on our social media too. They were accepted into the new WSL2 set up, probably with a bit more backing from the club too.

I’d like to see them be even more involved with LCFC too - maybe they could move into Belvoir Drive after we’ve gone to Seagrave? Or big matches being held at the KP? Fingers crossed.

No, what we really need is not a ladies football team, but a ladies knitting team ...   or even a ladies cooking team ! ...    far more entertaining and would probably sell more tickets ...    :)

There is an lcfc women thread somewhere on here where @chieffox (have I done that right lol) if I remember rightly explained the link. Lcfc ladies used to be the official team years ago but we cut ties with them some years back however recently we approached them to become linked with the club again but they declined choosing to stay independent so the Leicester city women were formed and linked to the club. I'm sure he'll explain better then me if he sees this thread.

Leicester City also have the elite rtc girls academy which I don't think is linked to the women but only goes to u16.

I've been to see the women a few times, even going to the league cup final at chesterfield last season and thoroughly enjoyed it, enjoying a beer and choosing where to sit or stand to watch the match, usually a few spots as the kids like to wander lol

I'll add despite them being about mud table in the ws2 this season I haven't managed to see them ever win a game so they might not welcome my support for much longer. lol

I'd be interested to go watch them play one day, but it's quite difficult to the ground they play on a sunday. I always think the biggest mistake female football made was moving their season alongside the mens, I think it should have stuck to the summer help improve the crowds and give us football fans something to watch to go to in the summer.

There's a previous thread here where the link between the two Clubs has been discussed. As mentioned in this thread also, it was brought up recently and talks are ongoing between the Clubs.

The championship club play down the road from me in Quorn.

in same division as United,Spurs and Villa. Some decent travelling support at times (heard drums and singing the other week)

That was probably the manu u game. There was a good atmosphere there that night, and a good crowd, shame about the result.

Have you seen Alan Birchenall out your way in the past?

Believe he still lives in Mountsorrel.

Personally wouldn’t watch a women’s football match if it was being played in my back garden.

Also baffled why the BBC try to force it in to the mainstream at every opportunity.

Each to their own though.

Equal opportunities, anti-sexism dedication etc.
