deejdeej Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 Absolutely p***ing myself at Stokes there, great entertainment
RowlattsFox Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 At the very least Stokes, Bairstow and to an extent Buttler have been able to find some form.
EastAnglianFox Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 I think if we had a super attacking, brave captain a declaration comes at 250. I won't hold my breath

RowlattsFox Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 Tough one for a captain really, imagine what will be said if Aussies come.out and smash them comfortably. Unlikely probably but cannot risk being 2-0 down.
marko Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 It's a big ask to go at 5 an over in a Test match without your best batsman.
katieakita Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 If the Aussies chase this down fair play would be one of the greatest run chases ever, no power plays, no fielding restrictions, no leg side wides 244 in less than 50 overs is a very big ask.

leicsmac Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 Five more overs to push the lead near 300, then declare. 45 overs to bowl them out is about the same as 50 and removes any kind of threat of loss.
Izzy Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 Stokes in the boss. Wish some of the others had bollocks the size of his.
trabuch Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 Not a bad declaration. Stokes' tail will be up now.

Crinklyfox Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 That's an attainable total. If two Aussies get in then they they can get the runs, and if they lose a few they have the ability to go defensive. I hope Root doesn't get to regret the declaration.
deejdeej Posted 18 August 2019 Posted 18 August 2019 Happy that Root has declared, what will be will be!
StanSP Posted 18 August 2019 Author Posted 18 August 2019 Stokes to the rescue again somewhat! Can't see 10 wickets taken in next few hours. Can't see Australia getting 266 in next few hours.

There's no way Aus will be able to chase this, England can just put almost everyone on the boundary and bowl wide outside legstump if needs be. If by some miracle they somehow do, then anyone who criticises Root for the declaration decision afterwards is being monumentally harsh.
