Denly, Buttler or Bairstow. Take your pick, no one pulling up any trees at the minute in red ball.

The only reason Denly was brought into the side was basically to do a job in the top three. If they're not going to use him to do that then they need to drop him.

Needed a ton from Burns there really, cheap wickets. The mentality is in pieces, the only man who seems to " do that to the system " is Stokes, so let's hope he can pull off an individual score that gets us somewhere near 300.

The second I check the cricket we lose a wicket.:(

Ditto - checked just as Root, Burns and Buttler got out.

Literally the blue box comes up the moment I click on the screen.

Think that's it for Buttler now, for time being anyway, unless he does something second innings. Curran in for him. He just looks mentally gone.

Not ideal to have the Ashes straight after a successful world cup, Roy, Buttler, Root and Bairstow will remember a terrible ashes more than an memorable world cup win. In the short term anyway.

c'mon rain.

Can't ever be confident that when we lose a wicket we'll put on a good partnership, we always look like we'll lose wickets quickly.  The aussies seem the opposite...but lets hope they'll bat as poorly as we have.

Let's not take anything away from Australia, they have bowled very well.  There is some movement for the seamers and the spinner, both captains wanted to bowl first if they won the toss.  Before we pass judgement on England let's see how Australia bat on it.

Ballance not worth another go. I'd rather keep Woakes, but other than that I reckon that's what I'd go with too.

Think Ballance averages 40 odd at 3.

While it's nothing to write home about, he has been better than the others that we've tried and dumped.

Saw a stat that Sam Robson averaged 30.5 opening in tests, we'd kill for that now!
